Imperial College /NHS letter about testing

I just received a letter from NHS / Imperial about taking part in a Corona Virus testing research study. Apparently it's random selection. Has anyone else had this? I'm intrigued to participate. Has anyone else had to do the swab tests themselves? Not sure if I'd manage to get it in far enough to be effective!

a colleague has had it. said it was not easy doing the test but worth it to get a result.

Yes - my 9 year old has been selected. The kit arrived this morning. My friend has also been selected.

I think I'll sign up, shame it's not an antibody test! Off to Google videos on self administering the swabs Confused

Yes, my 6 year old has been selected. We've signed up but I'm a bit worried about getting her to cooperate. We'll have to see if we can manage it, it should be a useful study.

@clairedunphy I agree it's a useful study. Just watched the instruction video and now googling where my tonsils are supposed to be as had them removed as a kid 😂 I hope your little girl doesn't find it too uncomfortable, she'll definitely deserve a big treat afterwards.

@BunsyGirl also hope your little one is ok having it done. All the kids who take part definitely deserve a treat for doing it imo!

@WhiteChocTwix Thank you. We explained that it wouldn’t be nice! He’s keen though as he loves science.

@BunsyGirl aw that's brilliant he enjoys science and is enthusiastic about it. Something to tell his teachers and friends about when the kiddies eventually all go back to school.

@WhiteChocTwix...yes, he’s excited about telling his classmates next week during their online pastoral class - they have to tell the rest of the class something interesting that has happened to them!

I got an email inviting me to test off back of filling in Covid app, but my symptoms were mid-march so figured it was a bit pointless by end April to go as it wouldn't pick it up by then. Would obviously attend if it was to test the antibody test. Hope your DC does ok with the test, bless him.

@BunsyGirl omg he'll love telling them about that! Let us know how he gets on. If he's anything like my nephew he'll love the gross element of it after the event!

I watched a couple of You Tube videos on self swabbing and have told DH I deserve a big treat as well if I do it 😉 (spotted a Ted Baker top I like at 30% off...) ☺️

I think I'll watch some videos, good idea! I don't want to worry her in advance but also need to make sure she's prepared. It sounds like ice cream might be a good reward!
