Where are people catching Covid-19?

Genuinely interested in this. For no reason other than curiosity.

I know people who have wfh since lockdown began. I know people who were furloughed since lockdown began. I know people who have been going to work and people who are working in the school hubs. I also have friends in Spain and in Rome.

The only people I know who have caught what is/could be Covid-19 are those who haven't gone out to work since before lockdown began.

If teachers in hubs are in close contact with kids of key workers each day, I would have expected them to be most at risk. I know it's a v small sample of people, obv. What are your experiences of this??

They have presumably been to supermarkets, or have been seeing people who have and are carriers.

Also unless they've been tested it's very likely that they had something else, unless they had severe respiratory distress.

I live in a country with high levels of testing and know at least eight people who were off work due to "symptoms" (no severe respiratory distress though) all were tested and none actually had covid-19. I also know people who have tested positive and in a work context people who have died. Self diagnosis is nonsense though. The people you know either didn't have it or caught it from somebody. Obviously.

We've been really careful. Adhered to all guidelines. Been getting click and collect shopping deliveries. Have been to the bank twice and pharmacy 3 times since lockdown. Seen no family or friends. Have used hand gel and masks at pharmacy or bank. Washed hands v regularly, cleaned shopping when received. Dc and I have STILL come down with a virus in the past week. Dr thinks Covid but if not, it's still a virus of some sort. It happens

I forgot to mention that I dont know of any healthcare workers who have caught it either.
As I said, I know this is just a small sample of people, but I'm also talking about friends of friends, so not a tiny amount.
One of my friends died in hospital with it,, so know for sure he had it. But he was basically never out in public since lockdown. Maybe he caught it before lockdown and it didnt become apparent for a few weeks.

Most of our testing is geared towards people who have been working or their family. That would be were they are getting it from.

Even people in lockdown go out and have some contact. Quite a few people are breaching lockdown and meeting up in groups in close contact. They may not admit it to other household members but it’s what they do.

Your friend may have been infected before lockdown. Incubation is up to 14 days. Then it can take about 2 weeks for critical symptoms to become apparent and for a need to hospitalisation.

The people I know who have caught it have either got it working in healthcare or as customers at the supermarket. An alarmingly high amount of people have said “I’ve only been to the supermarket!”. One person I know took their elderly mother to Asda once during lockdown and a fortnight later she was dead Sad. Neither them had been anywhere else for well over a month.

The only people I know who have definitely had it have been healthcare workers.

A few colleagues and I who travelled to Italy and France believe we had it mildly before we even knew what it was but no testing means we don't know. That was ages ago though. Noone I know at work or their families has had it in lockdown.

The only people I know personally who have had it are NHS workers.

I've not had it (that I know of) and I'm fairly lax, I go out for exercise every day and to the supermarket twice a week, don't wear a mask or wipe down shopping.

I don’t know anyone who has had it, but I’d assume it’s workers not socially distancing. Millions are still working, from delivery to transport to health care to cleaners, to schools, to even food preparation.

Fifty percent of people get it from someone with no symptoms. So I think that can lull people into a false sense of security too.

We've had 2 positive tests in staff at the primary school I work at in the past week.

The two people I know who caught it (sadly one has died) both caught it going into hospital for other treatment.
