Government won't talk to GMB and This Morning!!

Disneylover4321 · 11/05/2020 20:20

I was watching GMB and This Morning today and they were talking about how the government press team wouldn't talk to either shows.
Surely this isn't acceptable??
The government can't just hide and not be interviewed?

It's not hiding it just doesn't want to be on some crap TV shows being interviewed by people who don't know how to interview properly. I wouldn't either.

I think they're a bit busy trying to work hard to save the country and get advice out using credible news outlets at the moment. GMB and This morning don't fall into that category

They wouldn't go on Radio 4's flagship Today programme either, for a long time. It's awful.

After the bollocks piera, Suzanne and Dr hillary were spouting this morning, i am not surprised.

I don’t blame them for not going on GMB, piers Morgan just harangues them and doesn’t let them answer, but I agree they should do the others. Communication is very important here and it’s been poor.

@roosterpie
I agree with them not going on GMB, but not the others.

I would agree with you, normally. But have you seen BBC Breakfast lately? Absolutely dire, not sure why they’re bothering.
I looked at it after giving up on the Today Programne, which has nosedived.
I don’t want speculation, I want news!
I’m taking refuge with the Workd Service atm.

I watched GMB for the first time ever this morning and was shocked by how awful Piers is. It’s like the Piers show. God that bloke loves the sound of his own voice. He doesn’t stop to listen and he doesn’t let the person talk. So Sir Winston was on, intelligent scientific guy with a lot of knowledge.....he barely got a word in edgeways. Piers was rude, didn’t let him speak, cut him off, twisted what was being said and went off on his own rant.

If he’s like that with a non politician who he doesn’t blame for the crisis I don’t blame any politician for not going on. Piers wouldn’t want a sensible interview. He wants the headlines of shrieking at the prime minister/whoever. Dont give him the satisfaction. Information can be got over in a more sensible format with proper grown up interviewers.

No idea about the Today programme, that sounds shit. I’m not excusing anyone ducking out of being put on the spot by a calm and rational journalist.

Any media right now is awful, twisting everything, making stuff up, dear mongering with no facts just speculation. I'd only give the time of day to media that at least in these times acted more responsible and put people first instead of headlines and what would sell more.

They’re doing press conferences every single bloody day. What more could they possibly say?

Don't you remember when Boris refused almost all media interviews in the run up to the general election? And refused to to TV debates, go on R4 etc?

It's their (not so) new MO.

Have you noticed how they've stopped taking as many questions from journalists at the press conferences too? Not they have pre-recorded, pre-vetted questions from members of the public.

I really dislike Morgan but they deserve to be given a good interrogation over this given how high the death toll is here.

At least Piers tries to get answers out if them unlike the pathetic Dan Walker on BBC. The government have got a lot to answer for.

Of course they won’t talk to GMB or This Morning.
They don’t have a new single/ book / tv show to promote.

No he doesn't. Most of the interviews are of him talking over people he doesn't agree with. If people agree with him, all is OK.

And he soends most of his time talking about non existent rules. He still bangs on about how all non essential businesses were told they must close.

Suzanna usually ends up trying to reel him in and then gives up. She spent 10 minutes trying to interrupt him and the Dr to say that Give had been on the BBC saying kids with separated parents could travel between houses, when he had just been on there saying they couldn't.
.but she couldn't get a word in because they were talking about how the parental relationship came second to the danger of the virus.

When she finally got a word in, both piers and the Dr looked pissed off, to be corrected. If they hadn't been so rude, and spoke over her, they would have heard the clarification.

And it waw lovely to see all 3 of them talking about they would pay more tax for a better NHS.....and everybody else should be happy to as well. Great, when you have a high income. Totally missed the point that lots of people struggle already. They do care about the NHS, but also worry they won't make their bills

Yet, piers keeps talking about how out of touch the tories are?

The good doctor also claimed that most people going onto a ventilator will pass away, a few weeks ago.

Who would go near that programme?

ExclamationPerfume · 11/05/2020 20:58

@Peggysgettingcrazy he does not let government ministers get away with their scripted answers. He quite rightly interrupts them when they are talking rubbish which they do a lot of the time.

Report
BlueBrian · 11/05/2020 20:59

They were going to ban journalists from the afternoon briefings, but changed their minds after a big backlash from the journalists. This government just wants to avoid scrutiny.

@Peggysgettingcrazy his job as a journalist is to challenge untruths. Every time a government minister has been on lately they have either made up answers or not had the information to give. The female minister they put on last week had not even heard of the previous pandemic investigation.
