given that we can travel to exercise & walk the dog? Surely they must be but cannot find any information on the Parks & Countryside page of my local authority.

I think they must be

They always have been around here. The public ones I mean. Am hoping the National Trust might review their policy.

I hope not.

The parks here are open but all the car parks shut. The government rules from Wednesday permit us to travel (any distance infact) for exercise. I only want to travel elsewhere within my town to walk the dog instead of walking round the industrial estates which I have now done once a day for 7 weeks!

It will be a localised decision. Keep checking your council websites.

I just assumed they would re-open - previously it was not illegal to travel for exercise but highly discouraged and the Council shut all car parks but notices said parks remained open. Can't see how they could justify keeping the car parks shut. Yes am checking website.

The ones round here have stayed open the whole time.

With no toilets open travelling for exercise is out of the question for me, I'm sure there are plenty in the same boat. I know this isn't what you asked, but might have been something people haven't considered.

I live by the beach. I hope our council keeps the carparks shut. They have said they will update their website in the coming days.

I really, really dont want to miss out on my daily walks to the beach through fear of it being overcrowded. I can see the seafront from my flat - its been great so far, I hope it doesnt change.

Yes that is an issue with loos if travelling quite far. I read on another thread on MN that some visitors to parks & open spaces during lockdown had left all sort of disgusting things behind on account of closed loos.

Scarborough Council have said they're keeping the council car parks shut.

Of course, no doubt it will just mean people park on the road...

I hope they open them all up. If we can go out and exercise where we like it just seems right... will only cause other problems for residents and traffic when people park on the roads etc

I hope they keep them closed. The reduced number of cars on the road has been a blessed relief.

I heard through work that our council car parks will be open next week.

Bit mean keeping them closed. I am a resident I only want to use a park on the other side my town - too far to walk to - I have walked my dog round an industrial estate for 7 weeks, I just wanted a change (as he does no doubt) was not looking to drive to the beach or into the countryside, even though that is permitted from Wednesday. Great if you can walk to a park but not everyone can.

Fair point, but how many people will travel from out of town for a day at the beach? I expect too many.

Just because its permitted, doesn't mean its sensible.

It's going to vary hugely across the country so no consistent policy and you'll just have to look around for information about the sites you're interested in.

If car parks are closed you might be able to find suitable roadside parking within walking distance, parking considerately of course. If you go early in the morning, you have the best chance of finding somewhere, if lots of people have the same idea.
