Meet one person outside your household(62 Posts)
Apologies if this is currently being tightroped between the stay-inners and the release-me groups but... I’m confused.
The press conference was blatantly a baffling mess. As usual. But I still took it to clearly mean there is not a change, we are still in lockdown and can not socialise outside our own homes.
However that’s two political correspondents who have reported in the media that one of the changes was that people can meet up with one person outside their household if they social distance.
Not looking to start a war about whether that is a good or bad decision. Personally I’m one of the ones who is all for staying in lockdown (and no I’m not middle class with a huge garden and no financial effects, quite the opposite actually. I’m aware of the effects on mental health and economy but also think those will both be massively impacted by even greater infection, an overwhelmed health system and even bigger death rates so... )
I’m just looking to clarify whether I missed some huge chunk of the conference? When was this said?! And if it wasn’t said, why are bbc news reporting that it was?
I didn’t hear it either but also seen it reported.
Pretty meaningless. I can’t go out of my front door without seeing someone I know so been having loads of distanced chats. Everyone is.
It was in the press pack but not the speech. God knows whether that means it’s been jettisoned at last moment or is actually going to be allowed.
@somerville this is what I wondered. Maybe it was leaked to the press but was actually then scrapped and the press haven’t bothered to remove it? It’s all a complete shambolic mess
I hate how stuff like this is always revealed by ‘government sources’ and never explicitly told to the public. Why?? It just creates even more confusion.
Definitely no mention of mixing with one other person by Boris Johnson.
It was reported by BBC that you would be able to meet 1 person but keep the 2m social distancing in place. The example they gave was that you could meet a friend in a park but need to keep 2m between you.
I have socially distanced chats with neighbours when I encounter them
I'm really not sure what saying you can meet up with one person will achieve. Other than leaving a number of people feeling guilty that they are already talking to too many people.
That was reported online btw not mentioned all in BJ's speech or in the slides that popped up during his speech.
I just noticed this too on BBC and SKY News.. No mention of it by Boris. It seems we've definitely gone back to the herd immunity plan!
He did say that he would say more tomorrow in Parliament. So perhaps he will clarify that and lots more stuff.
It seems we've definitely gone back to the herd immunity plan!
You took that from Boris’s speech?!
It's the press stirring and misinforming us in their eagerness to put their own spin on it. The media no longer reports facts. They report their own version of selected 'facts' which is coloured by their opinion which is often biased and poorly interpreted by someone who has limited intelligence.
I didn’t hear it in the shambolic briefing tonight. I will be carrying on as I was. As have already lost one family member to this virus and don’t want to see anyone else go the same way.
But frustrated DD year 10 came down tonight to say it says on snapchat or tik tok or something that we can meet up with X friend as everyone is allowed to meet up with someone else from another household. We told her no but she stormed off in a huff. I said if you meet X friend, your brother meets X friend I see X friend and your dad sees X friend imagine how many households we are mixing just no.
It's the press stirring and misinforming us in their eagerness to put their own spin on it.
Is that you, Donald?
It’s the government briefing the press before the speech, then not including it in the speech, and not yet publishing any actual written details at all for any clarification. Shambolic isn’t the half of it.
This explains why I have just had an excited message from my mum tells us that she could visit us 1 day and then my dad the next, or 1 of our children at a time could go to her house.
I think my mum has misinterpreted it but it makes absolutely no sense to me to see 1 member of another household.
Does it means all 5 people from our house hold can see 1 person from another household, but then that 1 person will be seeing 5 of us not just 1
Time for bed I think, maybe it will make sense in the morning
The briefing says it’s outdoors only, while respecting the 2m rule...
BBC news on TV tonight said that a government official had confirmed you can meet one person from another household outside at a 2 metre distance. Quite why Boris didn't tell us about such a major change I don't know. And no idea if it means you can only ever meet with that one person, or you can meet as many people as you want as long as it's always one on one. I'll be reading the 50 page document carefully tomorrow. I live alone and wfh and have never bumped into anyone I know on a walk. I am desperate to see a human I know in person, and if this is a new rule I would really want to see my boyfriend for a socially distanced in person conversation.
Guardian's reporting of the press briefing read 1 person can meet 1 other person, not from their household, outside at a distance of 2m. It isn't clear if, as long as you stick to that guidance, you can see lots of different people one at a time, or it always has to be the same one other.
@Redolent I know, I think my mum heard it on the news and got a bit overexcited.
But it that case I don't see how it is different to what's lots of people on here seem to be suggesting about going to the park for a picnic and family having a separate picnic in the same park 2m away and that would be seeing more than 1 person from another house.
Oh my goodness, really?!
I cried for 20 minutes after Boris' speech. I haven't had a real face to face conversation with anyone in 7 weeks and am beside myself with loneliness. I was so hopeful that this was going to be in the speech. But it wasn't and I was devastated.
But if it just got missed out ...?
Aarghh, I don't want to get my hopes up but I'm getting excited now.
Yes, I've seen this on BBC and The Guardian. I'll be scouring those 50 pages as soon as they're available to see if this has made the final cut! I want to meet with DD for an outside, socially distanced coffee (our own flasks obviously!) and with a friend to resume weekly walks we've done for years.
Definitely no mention of mixing with one other person by Boris Johnson
He specifically said no mixing of households.
Political correspondents and media really have to stop bloody confusing things!
I'm going by the update Boris did, which said there's still to be no mixing of households.
Snap with the lack of face to face conversation and crying in devastation after the announcement at the thought of who knows how much longer of feeling so bloody lonely.
I am a bit excited, but also going to read the 50 page document very carefully.
