Shielding with a year1 child!

My daughter is shielding, my son is in year 1. I am absolutely terrified of my son having to return to school and have no idea what to do. Is anyone else in the same position?

Lots of people I imagine.

Try not to worry - it might not happen yet & even if it does, I think schools the rules re attendance will be very flexible until at least sept.

There's no way I'd send him with DD shielding

I'm in a similar position. Although my non-shielded DC isn't in one of the year groups due to go back first.

Your son wouldn't "have" to attend school if you don't want him to as you are shielding as a family.

My shielded DC is too young to be kept apart from myself or siblings so we have all been told to shield and my eldest is not to attend school until the youngest (shielded) is able to.

It's so tough though, I am lucky that I am a SAHM but I do worry about their education.

Honestly I wouldn't stress, just keep shielding. Keep going with home school.

Thank you. I think I will end up having to keep him at home but I know he won't be happy about it at all, he misses his friends a lot and I'm worried about his education.
I also have a dc in year 10 which will pose an even bigger dilemma once expected to return to school because of GCSE's.

One solution would be for my DH to move out with the two healthy DC but God knows how long it would be before we were able to see each other again and my six year old is too young to be away from me for a prolonged period of time. I'm feeling very miserable this evening.

Similar here - my youngest dd is vulnerable (and we actually had a shielding text for her last week - letter to follow apparently). My 3 other children are in Y10, Y8 & Y6 - so 2 of them will be in the 'prioritised' year groups to go back after 1st June. I am really not sure what to do - I assume after this, even if we have some level of choice as to whether they go back, work will no longer be set for these year groups. Ds1 has his GCSEs next year, so that would be a big issue for him. I honestly wasn't expecting it to be so soon.
