No point in lockdown anymore

All my neighbours seem to think that we are in a paid staycation by the government and social distancing are out the door.
Everyone around where I live has friends and family over, are having picnics together on the grass in front of their flats, the roads are busier than ever.
It's crazy! There's no point in making this country suffer any more so better all let's just go to work and what happens happens.

People are taking advantage of the paid time off and not staying indoors. What is the point of this lockdown if people are not following it anymore?

My next door neighbors had friends and family over all this week...it's crazy.

I live in Surrey and it seems that people are getting very relaxed now

I was against lockdown for this exact reason. People were always going to treat it like a holiday.....as soon as schools shut, the kids were being carted all over the countryside, beaches etc. If school, and work places had just used face masks, and hand washing....I think we could have saved a lot of upheaval.

I agree somewhat op. And it gets my goat those screaming for it to continue whilst loving every min of it and treating it like a holiday.

There needs to be a new strategy now, the public are taking it into their own hands. It’s game Over for lock down. And it should be game over for furloughing.

That's exactly how it feels here too. I actually sat and cried this afternoon cos I'm so fed up of working alone and going out for solo runs and walks while my neighbours are being paid by the government to carry on like it's a f-king holiday. has just gone out in the car for the third time today!! And before anyone accuses me of curtain twitching she's parked outside my window so I can hardly miss it when I'm stuck at my desk all day!

Agree. My neighbours have all been meeting family. There has been street parties with strangers turning up, close contact.

I am sick of the lot of them. I wish they would all go back to work.

I’m in se London and a lot of people seem to be ignoring the lock down, neighbours having family over, groups of people on the common playing footbal.

I don't see the point in continuing the lockdown if people don't follow it..
At this rate we will get a second wave and the NHS will be overwhelmed regardless of whether we are going back to work or not.
We might as well do something good for the economy and for our own pockets and return to work.

Furlough scheme was over generous.

I saw a video way back at the start of the restrictions which basically said, we've got one chance to do lockdown and that timing was cruicial.

Too early and people either wouldn't comply, or would start to break it before the peak had been reached.

Too late and there would be many more preventable infections and deaths.

I don't know whether this government got the timing right, earlier would probably have given a better outcome. But when the numbers of daily deaths were low, would the general public have complied to the extent that they did? Traffic and general numbers of people out and about are definitely creeping up now, though.

I haven’t seen anyone outright ignoring it. The most I’ve seen is people ‘bumping into’ each other on walks in open areas and having a socially distanced walk. Absolutely nothing like what you’re describing.

Agree, furlough was over generous. I don’t think they anticipated people would behave as they have done. Agree not to work, scream they shouldn’t work, it’s too soon, whilst treating it like some massive holiday

I think this is exactly why the government delayed locking down to when they did.

Everyone I know personally/ those around me have adhered resolutely to the lockdown. Myself included. My neighbours included. My whole family.

Now? People are fed up on A personal level. I’ll be seeing my DB and his family next week irrespective of what bojo says. And my best friend also, we’re catching up over a cuppa / glass of vino in my back garden. All whilst adhering to social distancing.

At an economic level, when deaths of under 45’s are analysed, the % of deaths is staggeringly low. Those of us not vulnerable need to get back out and get to work. No debate on that front. The kids need to get back to school.

Even my uber positive / mentally resilient household is now showing signs of starting to struggle.

The majority are still complying - I've heard it only needs 70% to comply

The nhs could still get overwhelmed- in 3 weeks time all those people who catch it and get very ill will be in a queue outside a hospital for treatment (and some will NEEDLESSLY die as the queue will be long)

At some point it will be up to the individual at risk to not catch it - they will need to stay in until there's a vaccine

That time is not now as most are still complying

@Bluntness100 my thoughts exactly. The furlough scheme was over generous indeed.

I live in an area with 1 death within 15 miles of me. Local hospital reports that the vast majority of hospitalised people are surviving. We personally only know of 2 people who have had it.

Ageing population. High numbers of Eastern European residents.

And all are taking notice. Just a few of those utterly invincible late teen / early twenty year olds meeting in groups.

Its probably very different 10 miles away. But here we are locked down, still delivering food parcels etc., staying safe etc.

Yes I agree with you. The not vulnerable ones( me included) should go back to work and get this economy going.

The government have fucked it tbh we should have locked down sooner and stricter then we would not be in the mess!!

Yes people are taking advantage, and yes it pisses me off because I'm still in the office 2 days Dh wfh with constant meetings, and the kids are suffering. But what pisses me off more is the fact nearly 30,000 have died, and the economy is suffering and there is still a lack of bloody ppe!!

In Surrey. Loads of people I know have told me that either they or their friends, or their parents, haven't been following the rules.
I Deliberately bit my tongue because if I had started talking I would've told them I really thought.

@Racheyg I see your point of view. It feels that the lockdown has failed us all especially the 30000 people that died as possibly it was implemented too late

An easy solution would have been to build in the removal of furlough payments for individuals breaching the lockdown. Sod £30 fines or whatever the going rate is. The government is paying you to stay at home, if you don't stay at home you don't get paid - simples!
