Shielding, Work and Family Members

Looking for opinions on this really.

I am in the extra vulnerable category and am on week 7 of shielding. My DH is also doing the same. We have an adult daughter who has some medical conditions that put her in the vulnerable category.

My DH is an agency worker with a job that involves going into peoples houses (not keyworker) so the employer was understanding that he should not go to work. He isn't be paid which we understand. I work from home anyway so I am still doing that.

DH is now getting depressed that he can't go to work. I feel increasingly guilty that I am the reason. In reality even when lockdown ends, the shielding category could be in for longer.

What are others doing? Are your partners still going to work and if so then what risks do you think there are? This morning I just told him to go back as he was saying so down. He's concerned that leaving mid-tasks looks unprofessional anyway now.

We know a lot of people who has one family member shielding and other family members are still going out to work. Its quite common. As long as they are careful on returning home, washing hands etc and using separate towels etc, I think the chance of bringing it home is low.

If he is going into peoples houses as his job, then his employer ought to have plenty of things in place to protect him and them anyway. that should then mean that he just needs to introduce a stricter regime when he comes home and he should be fine. He should talk to the employer and find out what they are doing first, and then take it from there.

Thanks for the advice. I think we will wait to see about the lockdown being lifted albeit slowly and taking it from there.
