Today I feel incredibly angry

I’m feeling incredibly selfish. My family luckily are all fit and well. If we catch CV we will in all likelihood be I’ll for a few days at worst. I see the impact this is having on us and feel incredibly angry. My dc should be at school, socialising, having fun. DH and I should be at work keeping a stable roof over our heads. But obviously it’s all gone to shit.
And all the fit people who are insisting they are going to stay locked up at home until there’s a vaccinationAngryFFS.
Even my close friend with a shielded dc is feeling that we have massively overacted to this when weighing up the collateral damage we are causing. I know I’ll get flamed but I’m truly at the end of my tether.

I personally know of a fit man in his forties, no pre-existing health problems, worked as a fire fighter. He spent 3 weeks in intensive care battling to survive. Thankfully he did but the damage to his lungs means it’s unlikely he will be able to continue in his job. It does affect younger people too.

I understand your frustration but the projected figures for deaths and long term health problems for survivors was far too high to risk.

The resescion we are headed into as a result of lockdown will kill thousands and tens of thousands, but that will not be counted and will mainly be the poor, the sick and those on the edges of society. Yet people will still argue for the restrictions to stay.

I’m aware of the risks and would be more than happy to take my chances .

I am angry, but only because this government has handled it so badly. We have to lockdown and we have to see it through because we didn't follow the proven, effective, test, contact trace and quarantine that has been around for decades.
The PPE debacle is a disgrace.
The care home situation is a disgrace.
We have to see it through because if we don't, the last few weeks will have been a waste of time.
I am in the shielded group and I am furious at the incompetence.

But your decision affects others doesn't it?

Tell me about it!! On my local fb page they want to stay in lock down till August!

The only person I know who has died from CV didn’t have CV. They had heart failure but didn’t get medical attention until too late. There must be many more cases like this.

I’m with you OP. DH has lost his job so I’m struggling with the whole thing. I don’t want people to die, but is the plan for the world to shut down every time there is a new a contagious virus? And what to we do now, hide indefinitely? We need to find a way to go forward in the long run. Fully aware I’m going to get flamed but wanted you to know you aren’t alone.

Without lockdown, and a real pandemic sweeping through the country, alot of us wouldn't be here to discuss the pros and cons.
The problem now is coming out of the lockdown without kicking the whole thing off again.

My best friend is likely to loose her forever home because her dhs business will probably go bust. They’ve put years of blood, sweat and tears to get to where they were. There must be thousands of families like hersSad

Well Good for you deciding that you’ll take your chances however it’s not just about you Is it? that decision has an impact on anyone that you come in contact with that is the whole point of these measures we are following.
If we hadn’t taken the actions that we had we could’ve been looking at tens of thousands more deaths I know it’s easy to now look at the numbers and say it’s been a massive overreaction but what would they have been if we hadn’t done it?

Our government did a shit job and you have every right to feel angry about that OP. I feel angry too. When they failed to implement test, trace and quarantine they condemned us to this incredibly damaging lockdown, which so far has no end in sight (whatever the tabloids regularly fill their pages with). If you look at how South Korea handled it - that's how ALL countries - certainly all developed countries with the necessary resources - should've handled it. But we didn't and nor did Italy, Spain, France, Germany and the USA. Australia and NZ have also done a pretty fucking awesome job, so why couldn't we?

But it's not just about you taking the risk is it? What about all the other people you could potentially infect?

I assume everyone saying pointing the finger and saying you’re being selfish etc is sitting pretty on a job in an unaffected industry or is taking the government furlough money. It’s easy to support a lockdown if you’re at no risk of losing your home etc.

awaywiththecircus thanks, hopefully our savings will be enough to ride this out and hopefully the same can be said for your friend. Uncertainty is torture.

I feel you op.

I'm sick to death of it.

My business hasn't even been effected, I have more work than ever but with two kids at home and trying to WFH it's fucking impossible and I'm watching everything I built slip through my fingers.

I'm not even 30 yet. I got fucked by the last crash when there was no opportunities, no mortgages, and probably about to get fucked again.

We have no garden. My children are teary and suffering. I have no partner. I'm done.

This morning I took my kids to the taped off play park and let them play while I sat at a table and got an hour of work done on the ipad. Was there twenty minutes and a young dad joined me with two kids. QUITE FUCKING RIGHT TOO.

If you're so scared you're going to die then you can stay in. I'm personally done.

I'm. With you on this one. My son should be starting woking towards his exams next year..
The stuff from the school is basically homework.. Eg write an essay.. Due in 10 days time. That's not schooling

I feel the goalposts are shifting as well.. It was all about not overwhelming the nhs. Well we've achieved that goal

Now it's about the r number which is below 1 which is what they wanted as well

I think it's time to move forward.. There is a future to think of for the majority of the country

But OP, the problem is you don't know how it'll affect you until it's potentially too late. On the one hand, there have been some people over the age of 100 who have recovered. On the other hand, there was one of the first patients in Italy (I think he was called Mattia?), in his thirties, a marathon runner and football player, who was seriously ill in the ICU. So I would rather not take my chances at the moment.

Just on the point of 'its not about you it's about people you come in to contact with'. How about you guys stay in and we can go out, then we won't come in to contact with you - simples. The rest of us then take our own chances.

Makeuptherules · 06/05/2020 11:45

I don't get how we can have overreacted when we have done less than 90% of other countries. It's your personal opinion but not necessarily right

I’ve got a relative who is on the shielding list and is furious about the over reaction - as am I. There’s a real risk his career will be gone, he’s like me, living alone, unable to see friends....it’s no way to live, death is much better.

Bollss · 06/05/2020 11:47

i'm angry too. Its not that i dont agree with lockdown, it served a purpose (flatten the curve save the NHS) but the politicians have absolutely no fucking idea what to do next.

It cannot continue like this. We have been scared into thinking that we WILL DIE or WILL KILL others if we get back to normal and that just isnt true.

We CAN slowly start to get back to normal without causing an enourmous second wave and killing every single over 70. Look at sweden, they are doing it.

If this lockdown continues all we are going to do is postpone the inevitable, and also make millions of people depressed, suicidal, hungry, poor and homeless.

What Whitney101 said

To the people saying ' is not all about you is it ' are being unfair , the economy is for everyone, the NHS has been protected , we can lock down again if the nightingales get overwhelmed by as they aren't even being used right now it doesn't seem likely

A phased opening of lockdown is likely, if you want to keep your kids home from school then you can but give those who need to get on with it the option
