Am I the only deluded one clinging on to a tiny bit of hope for our July holiday?

Yeah I know it's selfish to be worried about holidays what with everything else which is going on, but I've already had to cancel one at Easter. I'm sure there are a fair few of us who can't wait to get away. We're booked to go to Spain mid July, staying in a private apartment so no shared accommodation/hotel to worry about. Spain are starting to ease restrictions. I think they are going to need tourism to start up soon as long as they can be sure it's safe.

Is anyone else still holding on to a tiny bit of hope for a summer holiday? I really can't be the only one, can I?

We had to cancel a special holiday over Easter so I’m clinging on to the hope we can go on the holidays we have booked in September and October

We have one booked to visit family in August (UK). I just want to see my dad.

We also had to cancel our UK break over the Easter hols, so clinging to hope we might still be able to go to Majorca in August. I'm definitely at that 'expecting the worst but hoping for the best' point though.

I read a couple of weeks ago that Spain weren't going to allow anyone in for, possibly, the rest of the year for holidays. Might be worth checking on that before getting your hopes up. July seems quite soon tbh.

I have early August booked and hope it will be cancelled but I doubt it. I'm sure they will be flying by then but I don't want to go on a crowded viral tube to end up possibly isolating for 14 days on arrival if I get symptoms..

Tried to move it to 2021 but apparently we won't have any CV insurance as classed as a new booking so if we got symptoms we would have no medical or repatriation cover....so looks like £2k on flights will go down the bin

I think it's possible, OP. Fingers crossed for you.

We have a uk holiday booked for mid july and I’m holding onto the hope we can go on that. Self catered cottage by the sea...surely that will be alright??

Ah, some positive comments! Thankyou! Definitely expecting the worst but hoping for the best. I know it's shallow but we have booked THE most AMAZING penthouse apartment and we've never stayed anywhere like that before, so I will literally weep if we miss out.

There’s absolutely no chance you will be going to Spain, or anywhere else, this summer. You’re kidding yourselves.

I’m sorry but I just can’t see why other countries would want us anytime soon, I think we’re too much of a risk and don’t exactly look great in terms on infection/death rates. Places like Spain and France are only just easing lockdown to be in line with our current lockdown! And they started imposing regulations weeks before us. I think some counties have said they’d look at maybe letting people travel domestically in a few weeks time. Australia and New Zealand are apparently in talks about letting people in from each other’s country, but they’ve both handled the crisis really well.

Sorry OP Sad we’ve sadly had to cancel two trips away this summer. I’m not going to be one of those people vowing to never get on a plane and travel again though. As soon as I can, I will!

We’ve had to cancel holidays in March (Spain), June (Ireland) and we’ve cancelled one in August (Eastern Europe) too. All were for specific sporting events that are now not going ahead on their original dates so it was an easy choice but it’s still frustrating. DS will be 2 in September so I was hoping to make the most of free flights this year! I’m secretly hoping we might be able to book something last minute in August though. Wouldn’t be massively optimistic about July.

Assuming they let you in, then it is likely there would be a 14 day self isolation period required, so is there any point?

Nope I'm just as " delusional " - hoping for horse riding in Iceland mid July .

I'm holding out hope for our UK self catering holiday in mid-July and I'm dubious as to whether this will go ahead - its only an hours drive away, and within the same county however fully appreciate they may not want people travelling.

I don't think foreign travel will be doable based on what we know at this stage, but things are changing all the time.

I think one of the most mentally difficult things I've found about lockdown (other than worry over the health of my family and friends) is not being able to daydream about holidays without that cloud of uncertainty hanging over it.

I'm hoping we will be able to go on UK holiday in July. Holiday park near my parents. If we can't go not end of world. We were planning on Spain in September. Not doing that now. Just glad we had holiday in canaries in march.

I think it's possible OP. If you were planning on staying in a big beachside hotel I'd say that's almost certainly out of the question, but don't lose hope just yet. The global economy is very reliant on aviation and tourist industries, and I can't see us going much longer without making an absolute priority of getting them back on their feet.

We’ve got a UK one at the very end of June and I still have a tiny bit of hope, as it’s self catering and no mixing of families. I’d be gutted to miss it, I’m 30 and have been to the same place pretty much every year since I was born.

Agree most countries are likely to enforce 14 day mandatory quarantine for visitors for months to come. I'm not expecting to be able to go abroad until next year. Sorry.

Don’t listen to the negativity op! All this talk of 14 day quarantine is nonsense...some countries, for instance France, have already said we would be exempt.

People don’t want to hear it, but life is about to get moving again in the coming weeks. Your holiday is months away and by then, hopefully we’ll all be back to a slightly more cautious normality. I think a few more weeks of lockdown here, so see how the other countries get on and we’ll all be told to go back to work by June1st.

All countries will suffer terribly if their tourism is stopped over the summer and I think the aim is to start trying to get things up and running by mid July. That’s at least when some of Frances (as an example) restrictions end.

The idea that we’ll all be in some sort of extended lockdown until a vaccine is found is the delusion. But people will quickly tell you that’s how it is...because that’s how they want it to be. But it won’t.

The only thing I personally worry about is a 2nd wave of the disease and I think that could possibly put the kibosh on things...or if the airline has to cut services due to the economy.

That’s my take on it.

Unfortunately, I would say July is very unlikely. However, I am somewhat optimistic that we may be able to travel by the end of the year, although there will almost certainly be social distancing and other measures in place. I'm not sure how much fun a package type holiday on the Spanish costa would be in such circumstances.

However, as others have said, the tourism industry is massive and those countries who depend on it - say Spain or Greece - will be doing their best to support it while maintaining safety measures. How easy - or even possible - it will be to do that remains to be seen.
