So it’s recently been announced that Boris will be on on Sunday to let us know what the next phase is etc..

What do people think realistically he is gonna allow?

Opinions!! Go...

I have never heard Boris Johnson say anything clear and of substance ever.

Small outdoor gatherings.
Recommend masks but not make compulsory.
Reduce 2m rule in line with WHO recommendations.
A lot of reminding us no schools etc until five impossible tests are met.

On Thursday, he will extend the lockdown for another three weeks. He has to review this by Thursday, so he'll get that out of the way. I think he'll extend it as it is, because lifting any restrictions before the May half term would be a disaster and the App for Track and Trace won't be rolled out to everyone before then. They said this was key to loosening any restrictions and they said the App, if the uptake is high enough and it is effective, will need to be in place and effective beforehand.

On Sunday I think he'll give us a road map of what could happen in June, as long as the R number keeps down to acceptable levels (i.e. people don't break the lockdown) in the three weeks before then.

I don't think he'll extend lockdown by 3 weeks this time I think by maybe 2 weeks at a time. Just my view.

I'm interested to see what his proposals are Sunday because at this point England will have been in lockdown 7 weeks.

And people everywhere up and down the country are fed up.

Looking forward to another five or six days of everybody speculating and guessing about it on here, in the media, on Jeremy Vine and Talk Radio etc Sad

Fuck knows, I don’t even know if Boris knows until just before he goes on.

I’d like a firm stance on masks first of all, all this maybe they help, maybe they don’t shite is annoying.

And then an actual plan. I don’t mind staying in lockdown, but we need to know how we’re going to move forward.

I think we will see an extension to lockdown but possibly with some slight changes e.g. being able to see a small number of people and/or reducing the 2m rule.

I think the Sunday will see him set out plans for easing lockdown more but I don't think it will start before June.

I think some places of work will be allowed to return, however, I think that wherever possible people will be told to continue to work from home. So, for example, office work that can be done from home should be.

I'd like to hear plans for schools - maybe Y10/12 back in secondary after May half term. Possibly other years coming back in Sept.

Pure speculation on my part though 😁

Is it on a Thursday or Sunday? I understood it was going to be on Thursday

I don’t think they will lift lockdown until after the second May Bank holiday but maybe that Tuesday? So 26th May for small gatherings, more shops open etc.

I think they’ll need to present a plan now and not just say ‘3 more weeks’.

Do we think play parks will open? Or am I completely pissing in the wind there ?

@sleepyhorse
Announced this morning that he's going to talk to us all next Sunday about the exit plans.
Thursday is the day that the review of the lockdown is up.

PumpkinPie2016 · 04/05/2020 11:58

sleepy I thought Thursday but I have seen some articles say Thursday and some say Sunday Confused

Bigfish I hope so! We are fortunate to have a lot of outside space but for people who don't opening play parks will help enormously.

I just want to be allowed to go to my parents house with my 5 week old baby and 2.5yr old 😩

If there could be something where households can be paired together that would be great 😀

Lockdown extended for two weeks, but maybe with less restrictions on going out to exercise.

It's hard to say - our lockdown is already very relaxed comparitively.

Bol87 · 04/05/2020 12:28

I think the lockdown extension will be shorter this time as he knows people are running out of patience. Maybe two weeks.. gives him time to outline his plans on Sunday.. interestingly, this Sunday announcement was reported in the papers yesterday & everyone said it was all speculation.. similarly with the school re-opening dates 🤷🏼‍♀️ I think the papers have some sources somewhere!

Im sure thats the reason tbh, say youre going to make an announcement, follow public opinion, push for a certain outcome in the MSM and bobs your uncle Johnson delivers a decision rhat the public can be blamed for

No idea !
He can lock down if he wants but you can tell most are fed up now . I've just nipped to home bargains for a few bits 2 weeks ago no queue that's why I go for bread , milk etc as quicker than supermarket and near home. There was a massive queue and the car park full as B&Q on same car park . There was significant more traffic too .
So a further lockdown won't make much difference it needs to start relaxing by the end of the week and he should be saying today what's happening not on Sunday . Most of us have been patient and followed the rules / guidance but to not see family or be able to sit in the park etc for any longer is getting too much now .

Report
imsooverthisdrama · 04/05/2020 12:43

Just wanted to add if he extends on Sunday it will be almost 7 weeks since lockdown so to extend 2-3 after weeks would be 10 weeks in total .
It's too much now let's get back to normal , social distancing but still I want to be able to get out .

Report
Letseatgrandma · 04/05/2020 12:45

I know people want to know the plan, but there is a danger of him spelling it out too early though.

If he stands up on Sunday and says, ‘In 3 weeks, you’ll be able to go to the park in groups of 5 and visit your mum’, (some) people will think that it’s happening soon anyway so will just do it now.

I think it’ll all be about opening schools and getting people back to work. I expect he’ll drop the 2m rule as that’s a bit too tricky and they’ll make it very clear that the vulnerable group are fine to go back to work as they aren’t ‘extremely vulnerable’.

If he extends it it is more likely to be the 3 weeks as that covers the late may b/h. They won't want to be making announcements the day before the long weekend starts.

Nicola Sturgeon has basically just told Scotland that although final decisions not made she is expecting to say to us no change just now and review date will be 28th May with the first steps.

@MrsH497 would you not be advised to treat a newborn baby as a shielded person though? I’m not a massively health anxious person but I wouldn’t rush introductions to anyone with a new baby. They are just so tiny it wouldn’t be worth it.
