Covid

AIBU to think in the future we will look back on this and think this was such a big overreaction?

Preparing myself to get flamed for this.
Isn't it true that the majority of us will get mild symptoms and not even notice we really had it?
Yes hundreds of people are dying a day from it and yes they are not just numbers, but are they dying 'of' it or 'with' it?

People.die everyday, why have we locked down for this but we never did for the swine flu?

Is it worth ruining the economy for?

I just want other thoughts incase i'm just being stupid

@Tigertrees you're entitled to your opinion but surely give a reason than just call someone stupid?

We've locked down and still 28,000 are dead. If we hadn't, more would be dead, and many more on top as the NHS would have drowned. It’s a no brainer.

Swine flu wasn't the sane.

I hope you're right.

The alternative is the virus runs unchecked through a population with no immunity. And we realise that there are thousands of severe cases, and no one has prepared for them so they die without any sort of medical or palliative care.

Yes, I prefer your vision of the future.

More than 25k people have died after testing positive for COVID in the U.K. (and how many have died without being tested?) and we’ve been in lockdown for what - 6 fills weeks now? 7? I’ve lost track.

How many people do you think would have died if we’d all been out and mixing as normal?

If the numbers that are dying is lower than you’d expect, surely you can see that’s because of the measures in place?

Well it looks like the UK might come out of this with the highest number of deaths in Europe mainly because your government was so slow to act as they thought it was no big deal so yes, I would say stupid.

Lipz · 04/05/2020 00:21

Personally I would have preferred to keep the 5 people I know who died. But hey ho it's just an over reaction, sure they were going to die at some point anyway. I'm sure the young babies 2 left behind will totally get it was just an over reaction.

You asked the question OP, I gave an answer.
Do you realise the difference between dying "with" something and "from" it? As it doesn't sound like you do.

Christ don’t ask this question on MN, if you even THINK about lockdown being over, or not wanting to stay inside for the next 50 years never seeing another human you’ll be flamed.

I think if we’d have properly funded our health service, and made health a bit more of an importance rather than money things would be a lot less hairy. But as it stands things are being put in place to try and prevent unnecessary deaths.

I’m looking forward to the inquiry after this has blown over.

Hhhmmm

No it isnt a overreaction what it is, is a truly horrifying and a global pandemic in which people like me, you your next door neibour and tom dick and harry are losing there loved ones because it is serious.

The economy will recover! (In time)
The people who have died wont come back to life!
And those who currently have it - I hope they get better soon and are able to fight this deadly disease.

A medical professional said, some weeks ago, that the lockdown was implemented and given time to work, the stupid who walk among us would start bleating it was all an overreaction.

@TeddyIsaHe i was preparing myself for this backlash hahah, seems some users have to get bitchy rather than just offer an opinion back,
I was just reading the 'furlough until september' thread and it just made me think of all those worried about their jobs and whether this is worth all the job losses and mental health issues that will come

I don’t think so. It all boils down to how well your country can cope with a pandemic.

As it stands, not very fucking well.

I personally think we under reacted. Had we done more at the start we wouldn't be in the lockdown we now find ourselves in. But there is no point in going there. Those of us in the peppers threads were mocked but we understood what was happening back in January. Now we are dealing with a much larger picture . "People die every day" yes, they do. But not in numbers like this. Those 28000 people who have died all matter to somebody. How can you just dismisses that?

What is it with mumsnet and not being able to have differing opinions but instead automatically jump down someone's throat who thinks something differently? You can disagree with someone and be nice with it.

Mild symptoms is not the same thing as not noticing you’ve had it. It means not being hospitalised from it.

Yes hundreds of people are dying a day from it and yes they are not just numbers, but are they dying 'of' it or 'with' it?

They are dying from it, as is perfectly obvious from the increased number of deaths compared to previous years (extra 6000 a week in April compared to same week in previous five year average).

People.die everyday, why have we locked down for this but we never did for the swine flu?

215 people died of swine flu in the U.K. How is that in any way comparable?

If you think that the economy is more important than people’s lives, then fine, make a case for that. But the points you’ve made are just daft.
