I can’t see this in recent threads

So reopening some schools is on the agenda?
Telegraph article tomorrow
21:57 update on here

Fits in with what Harries said at the briefing.

The papers confidently stated last week that they were reopening on 11th May.

Schools re-opening is, of course, under discussion, but the media seem to be trying to sway public opinion rather than report the news.

The Telegraph obsessively pushes this agenda.

As does the Times

Thank you all.
Oh so it hasn’t been decided, it’s the media making it sound like a done deal.
Having not followed the Telegraph, I thought it was only the Times going on about this. Seeing it mentioned via a third party made me wonder what was going on.

The fail lead with 'school will reopen June 1st'
Then the first line is... They COULD reopen Hmm

I think our letter from shool yesterday said they'd been told the earliest possible they'd be asked to open would be 1st June, but they would be given at least 3 weeks notice? Not that it would be.

Made me think the govt is hoping to do something before summer though?

Our letter also mentioned the myriad of things the shool would need to take into a/c so it was clear it wouldn't be school as normal. (Obviously )

The media have an agenda of their own and are trying to push for schools to reopen. The Mail (sorry) this morning states categorically it will be 1st June but there is no proof, it hasn't yet been decided and headteachers certainly haven't been told a date, from what I can gather.

Personally I would actually place my own bets on 1st June, but I'd prefer September as I think it's all too early. But I realise people have to get back to work, and home schooling can't go on forever....

There's definitely an agenda isnt there.

Its almost as if people arent really aware of how badly the Uk is doing in the death rates toll.

More people will die if schools open too early.

I’m pretty sure that nothing is happening this month on that front. I would imagine that it won’t be until next year that schools resume normal operations, hopefully they’ll go back as normal in September (I am not cut out for this home learning crap).

The Times seems to imply it will happen beginning of June for years 10 and 12. My year 12 DD and her friends get a train to college, not sure they will be keen, some of them have shielding parents, but then my DD hates college anyway and is happier working at home.

And year 5s as well.

I work for an FE college and we are working on the assumption we will be back 1 June with staff back 18 May to “prepare”

I sincerely hope not as I think it is far too early. I think it’s more likely primary schools will be 1 June with years 10 and. 12 later but again I think it’s too early . DS is 8 and will not be going back to school until I think it’s safe regardless of what the government say.

I worry about being forced back into work before it’s safe and not being able to keep DS off. Frustratingly my ok can and is being done entirely from home now with no detriment to service but apparently we must rush back on site because it’s important to “have a presence” 🙄

Fewer than one in five of the British public believe the time is right to consider reopening schools, restaurants, pubs and stadiums. The findings, in a new poll for the Observer, suggest Boris Johnson will struggle to convince people to return their lives to normal if he tries to ease the lockdown soon.
The poll by Opinium, taken between Wednesday and Friday last week, found 17% of people think the conditions have been met to consider reopening schools, against 67% who say they have not been, and that they should stay closed

I've heard it could be 1st of June for years 6,10 and 12. I hope so cause my year 6 is dyslexic and struggling with home school.

I work in an FE college and our assumption is September with some sort of part home learning part face to face learning rota in place. So each student might be in every third day to allow for social distancing. It's a massive logistical task before you even think about staff offices, the canteen etc.. I'd be very surprised at any FE college opening up again in June. 75% of our students have finished by June, what would they come in for?

Report
catgirl1976 · 03/05/2020 07:51

Our principal seems to take opening early as some sort of badge of honour Mynydd. We have a lot of apprenticeships, commercial and vocational courses rather than traditional A levels but it makes zero sense to me to open before September and even less sense to insist all the HR Finance Marketing people come on site when they can work from home

I don’t know what people think is going to be different in September than now. The virus will still be out there.

But why would year 6 be your first year to go back? It’s game over for them for the year. The year group you want back in first at primary school is year 5, because they are the ones with stuff to make up and SATS to be sat.

Oh, I see now someone did . Well, a few months is better than a knee jerk response : or , do we imperially assume Ireland, NYC, Italy, Spain follow bad science? Let's not kid ourselves that, if this is true , it diverge from the 'follow the science' mantra.
