At a team Zoom meeting my boss said surely we all know someone who has had the virus.

I was the only one to shake my head!

Depends where you live, I guess, and who you know. If you know lots of young adults, chances are some of them have had it but with no symptoms. If you live somewhere with loads of cases and you know lots of older people, then it's more surprising that nobody you know has had it.

Well not sure why that’s unreasonable? If anything you’re lucky!

It might be people you know have had it mildly/no symptoms and not been aware.

I know two people who have are suspected to have had it as they had all the symptoms and were wiped out for two weeks. My cousin had it and sadly died in mid March. She caught it in hospital and had underlying conditions. It’s been very difficult.

Well, I don't think it's unreasonable of you no. We aren't supposed to be going round introducing ourselves to people with the virus.

It's surprising at this stage, but not impossible.

I live in Cambridgeshire and don't know anyone who has had it.

I live very rurally and teach primary. I know 3 TA's who have it, one of whom is in hospital, plus 2 teachers and 3 kids in my school. In my village one teen is in hospital with it and kidney failure. My nephew, who is 6, is only just out of hospital. My personal experience of it is nothing like the media says - it's all healthy, young people with no underlying conditions. And they are very, very ill.

I don't know anyone who has tested positive. I'm in South West, with less cases then elsewhere.

It’s not at the stage where huge numbers of the population have had it yet - at least not confirmed.

Whether you know people who’ve had Coronavirus probably depends to a large extent on whether the people you know are in high risk groups or occupations with a higher risk of being exposed.

For ages, I felt like you, OP.
Then it started, and several friends of mine, and colleagues of my partner, have had it or have it now.
No one I'm related to or who I see ever, though. So there's still a degree of remoteness to it, to a point.

You’re lucky! We’re in rural Lakes and it’s everywhere, had friends in ICU - one just out and one still there - one friend who’s died and others in the village who’ve died too. About 20 cases in our valley/hamlet and taking weeks to shift it

I don’t know anyone who has had it but I know three people who have family members or close friends who have been hospitalised with it.

I live near Cardiff and have friends and family in rural west Wales. I have ( I think) had it myself. I have one friend who has had it really badly. Sister and partner had it mildly, as did two friends (a couple). My daughter may have had it.
I think it’s probably quite unusual not to know anybody by now, unless you live in one of the areas with very low infection levels, or unless you don’t count anyone as ‘having it’ unless they are ill enough to go to hospital and get it confirmed as they are very ill.

A member of my family had it and had recently been discharged from hospital. I'm so grateful they're ok

Gosh notmyrealname-that’s horrible and scary. Sorry about your friend.

I didn’t until last week but now my best friend’s husband has it. I can hear him coughing dreadfully from the other room when I’m on the phone to her and it has made it seem much more real. FWIW he is the youngest (early 30s) and fittest (triathlete) in our friendship group

I think I had it in January and most of my friends, husband had mild symptoms but no tests so no confirmed. Relation had it and partner now OK. More recently I know no one where I live who has had it or died, rural area, small village a lot of older people.

Only 230ish confirmed cases in our county. I've heard of a friends sisters best friends mum who died, but not local, and a guy from my dads sport club. Don't know anyone personally.

I don't know anyone locally who's had it (rural West Mids) but there've been fewer than 280 recorded cases in the whole county. My SIL tested positive up in Glasgow, with a mild case that didn't seem to affect her DH or DD too badly.

Obviously I'm taking lockdown seriously but I'm shocked we might overtake Italy and be second to USA for fatalities.

@pourmeanotherglass that’s a very high bar. Very few people are getting tested. The friend who has been really ill, despite working for the NHS, has not been tested. She has secondary pneumonia and her lungs have all the characteristics, but she hasn’t tested positive because until this week it’s been nearly impossible to get a test.
OP do you know anyone who has had a temperature, probably with a cough, maybe loss of smell/taste, maybe headache, and fatigue? If so, they’ve probably had it.

I don't know anyone who has had it, that I'm aware of. Granted, I don't really speak to that many people anyway but I still know a fair few people and would imagine someone would have mentioned it. I'm in the South West too which may have something to do with it.

Having said that though, my husband and I think we may have had it mid-March but we just can't be sure, especially if it really hadn't done the rounds where we live at that stage.

I live in an outer London borough (one with “less” cases) and I don’t know any one with it or who’s had it or suspected to have had it.
Two friend/relative of a friend situations but no one I know personally
