What measures next week?

So today they announced we are past the peak, the R value is between 0.6-0.9 and they will announce next steps next week.
What do people think they will be? Boris sounded quite optimistic but then Chirs Whitty sounds much more somber.
What do you think we can expect?

The same as other countries have done in Europe with gentle easing

hopeishere Thu 30-Apr-20 18:13:02

Slow reopening of businesses.

Possible plan for schools.

Redolent Thu 30-Apr-20 18:13:51

Face masks for public transport and shops.

PatriciaHolm Thu 30-Apr-20 18:16:56

Boris doesn't have any other setting other than Bumptious. Even if he was announcing solid Lockdown until Christmas, he'd be trying to sell it as optimism.....!

I did think they are starting to signal facemasks as to be encouraged though. He said the plan would cover "how we can restart the economy; how we can get our children back to school; and how we can get people into work.".

P1nkHeartLovesCake Thu 30-Apr-20 18:20:34

They will slowly open business up and rightly so the economy needs it, the virus is going nowhere and a vaccine is awhile off. They have to start easing things

I know many on here want this to continue for months until we have a vaccine but some of us live in the real world and know our economy needs to be making money.

Yes I thought the same as Patriciaholm, it was all said with Boris’s usual enthusiasm but actually he didn’t say anything useful. We will detail a plan regarding how to get the economy and schools back but with no dates and only when we meet the famous 5 tests!

bigchris Thu 30-Apr-20 18:21:45

I don't understand the face mask thing

They'd need to be disposed of after every use wouldn't they?

With healthcare settings not having enough ppe where would workers and sch kids get them from ?

bigchris Thu 30-Apr-20 18:22:54

I dont think they have a plan just yet , that's probably to be discussed over the weekend

Sunshinegirl82 Thu 30-Apr-20 18:24:40

I think there will be massive emphasis on a South Korea style test and trace programme combined with a gradual process of easing the restrictions.

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite Thu 30-Apr-20 18:25:39

Not another speculative thread. Really, what is the point in speculating? It doesn't matter what any of us think will happen. Our opinions aren't going to change anything. Que sera, sera.

redtickreturn Thu 30-Apr-20 18:27:38

I don't think anything is changing next week is it? He just they would start unveiling the exit plan for the weeks to come next week.

googlepoodle Thu 30-Apr-20 18:33:35

I think we may go the way of France - so some shops open, schools back but with face masks, home working to continue for those that can.
I think those measures could be brought in next week

I’m not expecting the to start actually doing anything next week no, but I suspect t they will tell us that the plan is to implement a massive test and trace programme to start once the number of new cases is low enough.

TowerRingInferno Thu 30-Apr-20 19:01:06

A few more types of shop allowed to open maybe.

Appuskidu Thu 30-Apr-20 19:04:04

Like I said on another thread-if they announce next Thursday that they’ll be lifting restrictions soon, they’ll be loads of pissheads being stupid all BH weekend!
Parks
Beach
Holiday homes
Parties

Hospitals will be fun!

frasersmummy Thu 30-Apr-20 19:05:19

I thought there was going to be easing but nicola sturgeon kinda stepped back from an exit plan today and said there would be no restrictions lifted any time soon..

So I'm guessing another 3 weeks of lockdown

pennylane83 Thu 30-Apr-20 19:48:34

@bigchris the general public wont require hospital standard PPE, just the basic eqivilent of pulling a scarf up round your face, so, as long as everyone puts their face mask on a boil wash at the end of every day......

msmith501 Thu 30-Apr-20 19:54:11

I would be concerned that popular opinion / demand may sway the relaxing of lockdown measures too soon and we become less careful / vigilant. I can't recall which country it is that has seen a new spike since relaxing measures but it was on the news this morning.

ofwarren Thu 30-Apr-20 19:54:16

I don't think they will change any of the measures next week. Didn't Boris just say he was going to tell us what the exit plan entails?

KoalasandRabbit Thu 30-Apr-20 19:55:25

School (secondary) senco told me today expecting a partial opening in June. Before they had cancelled everything through to September. No further details and maybe pure speculation on their part but given other countries are starting to open schools again it's possible.

DianaT1969 Thu 30-Apr-20 20:07:26

I think estate agents will be encouraged to open first, as the government are aware that people are stuck in housing they can't afford or don't want anymore. Some want to rent properties with gardens. Due to domestic violence, people need a chance to get out and rent elsewhere.
Coffee shops open for takeaway and outdoor seating. Outdoor cafés allowed. Garden centres if social distancing can be maintained (the aisles are often narrow).

With over 6000 new cases just today (being admitted to hospital) - organising contact tracing will be quite something.
