How have you changed since having it, I know someone who has had it and is now fine and they are really suffering with the lock down now, which is sort of understandable because a massive weight has been lifted off their shoulders and they are essentially 'safe' now.

Obviously I know that's not the reason for the lockdown but as some one who is really worried about getting it and if I'll be ok or not. The though of knowing I'd had it seems like a dream!

I am a frontline worker (none medical) and am scared every time I Go to work, the thought of that fear not being there would be amazing!

Just interested how it translated to real life really Smile

The people who lost their sense of smell are worried by the reports that this is a harbinger of potential future brain damage from neuroinflammation

Having had it does not mean that you are necessarily safe. Not enough is known about immunity yet.

Yes fair enough I should have articulated better, I understand there's not research so I suppose what I should of asked first is do you feel safer or less worried now or has it actually not changed anything for you at all

DD2 had it, quite mildly, although she was really ill. She is fine now, but her GP warned her that there is no guarantee that having it provide immunity.

I had it, not upset or worried

Well theres no proof immunity is long lasting. Plus there are different strains of the virus.

I caught it just over a month ago and am still suffering decreased lung function - still out of breath if I attempt any serious or sustained activity/exercise.

It's not nice and recovery is not straight forward or quick. It's quite protracted and at times painful. I believe it has left me with possibly permanent physical effects as I already had asthma and it seems I get chesty and need my inhaler more.

Despite this, I am glad I have contracted it now, as whilst I generally prefer the Autumn to the intense heat of summer, in terms of recovering from an illness I much prefer to have caught it when the weather is warm with long sunny days, rather than later in the year when it is damp with less light. That would have depressed me. At the moment I can soak up some vitamin D and walk slowly around the park for my 1 hour. The heat is also therapeutic for my chest.

I also always accepted I might catch it and would have to take my chances. I'm open and accepting of the idea I could catch it again in the future.

For many people with better health, the anxiety about it will be worse than catching it.

I think it's the unpredictability that is worrying people the most.

There really are some who are determined that this is the apocalypse aren’t there?

We had something that could have been it in March. We are all fine now but obviously we don’t know whether what we had was COVID or some other generic winter virus.

My mum also had something that could have been it (she is in her 70s). Took her quite a while to get better and she still had a cough but she feels well again now.

Roll on the antibody tests and some more info on how long immunity might last.

Husband has had it and he’s completely fine. Still a big pain in the ass. It really wasn’t a big deal - 2 days of feeling rough (cough, temp, exhausted, loss of taste) and then gradually better over the course of the following 4 days.

I think the general assumption is there will be some sort of immunity to it once you've had it but obviously we don't know yet

I'm curious really because someone I work closely with has tested positive (the nature of our job means social distancing at work is impossible) we have all been tested and are waiting the results

I'm worried because I have health anxiety as it is and the thought of knowing I've tested positive for it but haven't yet got the symptoms and don't know how bad they will be is quite scary, so I guess I was just trying to clutch at the straw that at least if I do have it and providing I recover i might at least be able to relax a bit after!

I’ve had it for forty days and am still ill with it (or with post viral effects). My understanding is that any immunity is likely to be short-lived. Having had it, my feeling is that I don’t want to go through this again. I am worried that it will kill me next time (I am in the extremely vulnerable group) as I am already weakened.
Sorry if that’s not what you want to hear.

My sister has had it. However, she keeps getting ill, and has been hospitalised multiple times. It appears she's over it, improves and then weeks later it hits again. She's been like it for weeks.

Having seen her experience I doubt the immune theory to be honest. Every time she's tested positive at the hospital for it.

Sorry.

My brother had it. 5 weeks later he is still very short of breath and can’t walk far.

Sorry OP I cross posted with you about your health anxiety.
I wouldn't have posted if I'd known about that.

Those of you that say you had the virus, did you all have a test?

Report
Complexico · 30/04/2020 15:03

I have had it - it's still rough and it's been six/seven weeks since symptoms started (at first I thought it was anxiety / pulled muscles).

I am still needing to sleep 16ish hours a day minimum and am exhausted at the slightest thing.

I do not feel safe at all as there is no guarantee that once you've had it it won't come back - doctors have even told me this.

I had it and 6 weeks on still get tired very quickly want to sleep all the time but feel a bit whew that's it had it and gone. As for not having immunity they haven't proved getting it once stops you getting it again but it's fairly safe bet it will.

I think I had it, was never tested. But I still have a cough first thing in the mornings.

My NHS nurse friend tested positive and only lost her sense of smell, she’s not had any ill effects at all. She’s been very fortunate.

We don't know enough about it. Someone questioned on a thread weeks ago, whether it has the ability to hang around in a 'dormant' phase and then 'reactivate' again when you get a bit run down, like some herpes viruses can.

I find that interesting because I keep reading about people feeling much better then suddenly feeling quite bad again weeks and even months afterwards. That has been my experience thus far and I no longer can really say 'it's gone away'.

Well I was fine until I read pocketem's post! However I'm not actually going to worry about that either. I don't seem to have been left with any residual effects to date.

I wasn't really worried about getting it before I got it, so I don't feel any different now. I was only worried about the vulnerable people I know getting it (and the economy and all the rest of the shit that goes with this), and I'm still just as worried about that (and even more so now about the economy).

catherine sadly we don't know enough no. I just her experience hasn't been one of getting better fully at all, when she improves she seems to get it all over again and she's had it off and on for months now probably. I know when she first had symptoms (now known to be covid-19 everytime its come back or whatever) she was refused a test because she hadn't been to an infected country so it must have "just" been a nasty virus(!) or infection of some sort..

Interesting point. I wonder how many of the formally diagnosed have been diagnosed more than once? I know she certainly has.

Has no one ever been ill before?

I had bronchitis 5 years ago that went on for 8 weeks and required a hospital visit.

I had norovirus very badly.

I had adult mumps that floored me for 3 months.

But then I got better and I was back to normal.

The (normally healthy) people acting like this is going to cut them down in their prime ought to try cancer or MND or crohns or Parkinson’s for size...

It’s a virus. You get it. You’re ill. You get better. Be glad of those facts.
