Covid

Has all this made you want to pack up and travel the world?

Since the outbreak of the coronavirus, the tragedy of 26,000 deaths so far and a chance that someone I love and I could die of it, I have had a rude awakening regarding my perspective on life.

I know it is not possible to go anywhere right now, but once this has settled down, the thought of upping sticks and going on a worldwide adventure is all too appealing.

It's probably all a pipe dream as I have 2 primary aged children, but I can't stop thinking about al the opportunities that are out there that I might never do.

Anyone feel like this?

I feel the opposite, like I wouldn’t care if I never went on holiday again.

We’re all different!

Yes definitely!

Every second of lockdown has been torture and made me realise that we only have one life and we need to live it.

It’s had the opposite effect on my life. Seriously considering moving back to my home country permanently (we’re spending coronavirus here for various reasons). The temptation to just not go back is getting stronger by the day.

Yes. My husband wanted to go to Ireland at the end of this year. I didn't want to because it's my busiest time of year work wise. Well now that i have NO work I am really jeen to go to Ireland, just not in December though. Probably May next year

It has had this impact on me... although this is how I feel most of the time anyway Blush I did a lot of backpacking when I was younger so spend a lot of time longing for that feeling of freedom again.

Our two holidays this year have been cancelled so I’m wistfully planning where I can book flights to as soon as this is all over.

I used to feel a huge urge to go abroad because my peers were travelling at least once a year. Plus I love swimming and really wanted to have experiences of the seaside, waterparks and waterfalls abroad. Instead I saved away trying to build up a deposit and made peace with the idea there are certain places I'll never see in person by using YouTube to visit (I recommend this because it's actually really fun and I had a list of city breaks I wanted to do and after seeing certain places I decided against going in person or am more compelled to visit one day) and thinking of visiting the leisure centre and going to a UK waterpark, walking in national trust places and parks. Now I feel more determined to save my money for a deposit than before and to try and get a home with a garden. I still wish to go abroad one day though, it's just something I've put on ice and want to consider much later.

My dream has always been to take the children out of school and to travel for a year. I'll never be able to afford that and we haven't been abroad for years because of money but were saving hard for a trip this year or next. Now I'd be glad if my county opened back up and we got back our day to day lives.

Yes, but I always feel this way.

Yup, I was planning to resign from my job before all this happened and if I managed to hang on long enough was going to be able to afford both the time and money to take three months out for a bit of an adventure. It had been a long and very stressful time coming and but everything I was going to do will still be there when all this is over. However I'm highly likely to lose my job now so whether I'll be able to justify the cost of travelling, probably not.

I'd been looking at the potential to do something similar even before this - some plans are now on hold as we can't do certain courses and need to hold savings in case DH loses his job. But we will keep an eye out for people selling off boats to see if we can get a bargain (or a bargain on a house near a beach in this country).

But we are also looking at what exploring we can do of this country - it is lovely and we have holidayed here a few times, but are likely to need to at least this year and probably next as well, so might try to go to a few places we haven't been before as well as some old favourites.

No, the opposite. Travel has been a huge factor in how rapidly this has spread. I feel a sense of responsibility to reduce my travel in the future.

No if anything it’s put me off abroad travel completely.

I was all set for my year of midlife crisis travel this year. I was at the airport when my first flight on my adventure was cancelled 12th March.
I will travel again one day but I think it will be 2 or 3 years before I can go properly.

It has made me reassess a bit. More about which companies I spend money with and trying to be greener. Although CV has been devastating for people it looks like it's been great for the planet and nature. I hope we hold on to that afterwards and also rebalance the economy away from billionaires grabbing everything they can and more towards ordinary people so they have everything they need. To be honest, I'm not optimistic about the last bit. The banking crisis didn't change anything and neither did Panama papers.

I'm not sure if it will be possible.
On another thread it's reported that New Zealand has eliminated coronavirus. It would be madness for them to throw their doors open to tourists from the UK or US any time soon. Likewise for any country that gets it under control - will any of them welcome tourists from the UK or US?

It has in a way - but really only to get back to DH home island and family/friends. We were due to go for a 10 week visit next year but with CV complicating things (we re in Aus so wether we will actually be able to leave country? Quarantine arrangements? Will it be more expensive ?) it's very very unlikely. It's been quite distressing and really pulled into focus the risks of family on either ends of the world (like many many people 💔)
Travel was huge for us pre children and we had a plan to start again with kids at tween/teen ages but I'm not sure that will eventuate. I really want too - I adore rail travel and have so many routes to check off my list

It's more that it's made me grateful I already did. I have travelled a fair bit and I went to my ultimate destination in August/September last year. I had dreamt of going there since I was a child and I'd saved to go for almost three years. I'm feel so grateful I got to go and see it when only six months later the world locked down.

Maybe not travel the world but it's made me want to move abroad more than ever, if we ever had another pandemic in the future I'd rather spend lockdown somewhere better than south wales

Not go on a worldwide expedition but it's definitely made me want to visit more countries. Now that freedom to travel has been taken away for now, when this whole thing is over I want to see as many places as I can before my chance is gone!

Funny how we're all different...I definitely want to travel more. I'd just got back from a dream trip to California when we went into lockdown, would love to travel more as I feel I've missed out up to now. I'm 54 though and starting to feel that life is too short not to see the world..

Not necessarily a wordwide adventure but we will definitely be going abroad as soon as we can. We've already booked for next August and will look at squeezing in something earlier if we can. This had made us realise how much we enjoy seeing different plac es.
