www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8271703/Experts-single-child-10-passed-coronavirus-adult.html

Sorry it’s from daily fail but a friend sent me this and she said we need now to open schools now.

I think it’s big business lobbying to open to open because of financial losses closures are causing.

What does the article say - quick summary. Based on the text in the link, a child can pass the virus to an adult. That's not new news is it?

I don’t think schools are going to open any time soon.

If you want say it, say it.

If you want to use a word, than stand by it, don't hide behind asterisks and numbers.

"meetings should be brief" - if there is no risk then why brief meetings.
Children don't have the receptors but the virus will still live in/on the body for a period of time... so we know how long? Child picks up virus on their hand, touches various parts of their body. Goes to school, washes hands, then touches various parts of their body, picking up the virus, passes it to other children and adults at school.
Is that not still a risk? Maybe it is a reduced risk but not eliminated.

Why does it sound like bullshit? FFS it’s a tiny glimmer of hope during a shit storm, can’t we just be a little bit optimistic?

It’s data coming from a Swiss study, it’s not the daily mail or sinister “big business” bosses.

So we don't care that children get it

Children under 10 don't seem to get it to anything like the same extent and when they do it's almost entirely mild.

There is an Icelandic study which seems to support the Swiss data. I'd caution that two studies, done in a rush, is not exactly proof.

It is obviously bullshit OP, we should definitely ignore it.

This is great news. Please remember 'big business' also employs a huge amount of the country. I am skeptical whether there is a conspiracy here for big business to get schools back.

I think some parents are panicking schools will go back in a rush, this will not happen, the teachers don’t want to catch it either. The government has a huge job to make sure schools are safe for everyone, this will take a lot of planning, I can’t see schools going back until September.

Except I know of 3 children locally, all under 10 who ended up in intensive care? So not mild at all.

and can't pass it on to their friends either perhaps?

If this is true then long term it might make us feel more reassured about schools going back (although there's more to consider than just the children passing it in)

But in the shorter term, might it mean that children could meet their friends for a walk in the park for example or that playgrounds could be opened so long as adults stayed away from one another?

The information could be useful in helping to decide some steps for when we're ready to ease lockdown.

Personally I would LOVE the first steps of lockdown easing to allow my ds to see his friends in some way.

Why would your personal experience invalidate two studies? I'm not sure of the numbers in the Swiss study but the Icelandic one was over 100k iirc.

As I say, I would take these conclusions with a huge pinch of salt until more work is done. There is some anecdotal evidence that kids may present differently, so perhaps they are being missed.

Incidentally, for you to personally know 3 symptomatic under 10s, well enough to find out that they are in ICU, is unlikely. I think there have only been about 20 under 16s in ICU nationally. Are you sure they are all Covid 19 patients?

The school I work at have announced return will be phased, probably in year groups. They have stressed they do not have a return date our school won't be before 1June. They're currently doing a staff survey on whether we'll be able to return and do normal hours, if not, why not. Checking if any staff are particularly anxious about it and anything we'd like to see in place on return.

Yes it does need looking into but do you stop over 4.5 million children going back to school for a small number? Schools won’t go back to school until September at the earliest so hopefully they will have more information by then.

Agree. September will give more time to investigate it and also the immune response in rare cases.
