Woman from Cornwall told she's not allowed her coronavirus test results - Cornwall Live

Just seen this on Twitter. What’s going on?

Doesn't make any sense not to know the results.

So the gvt can say they've carried out X thousand tests, but saves money by not processing the tests? Madness.

It sounds like the woman wasn’t supposed to be tested to begin with because she isn’t a key worker:

Then she said “hang on a minute, are you a keyworker or a frontline worker?” I explained that my daughter was a keyworker and she said “you will never receive your results”.

So I’m assuming her own swab was never tested as she didn’t meet the criteria? This paragraph:

The woman said she wanted to make sure that other people are aware that if they are keyworkers they will not get their test results.

Is bullshit because again the woman in question isn’t a keyworker!

The only person in that scenario who qualifies for testing is the partner with symptoms, presuming that he lives with the supermarket-worker daughter. It’s not actually all that clear that he does. The rest of the family do not currently qualify.

This is the problem with allowing people to just book themselves in. Sigh.

Maybe they meant she wouldn't get her result because they couldn't get it to register properly. Not getting a result completely defeats the object of getting key workers back to work so I think it's probably someone trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill and there isn't anything 'going on.'

I'd like to have more evidence before believing this as it doesn't make sense

It does make sense. She wasn't eligible for the test as she didn't have symptoms.

Families of essential workers are allowed to have the tests. From the Guardian 24 April:

"The health secretary, Matt Hancock, has expanded the criteria for who qualifies for a free test for coronavirus to all essential workers and their families in England – up to 10 million people. [Including]:

Food and other necessary goods

Those involved in the production, processing, distribution, sale and delivery of food."

I work in pharmacy so my family and I are eligible for testing if we get symptoms. My understanding is that it is only family members with symptoms that are eligible for testing and me if they have symptoms to allow me to go back to work.
If she doesn’t have symptoms she wouldn’t have been eligible for testing.

From the Guardian 24 April
A rather key piece of info missing from that is, the families can be tested, but only if they have symptoms.
The only people being tested without symptoms are NHS frontline workers and patients and Care Home staff and residents.
