Obviously no one can predict anything

But what are your opinions of what will happen and why?

For example:

Lockdown still for a few more weeks?
Or Ease restrictions but how?

Just interested in people’s thoughts.

I think they will extend by 3 weeks, then start lifting/relaxing some measures in June.

Extend for another three weeks, possible suggestion of school going back after half term (so June 1) and then easing up on some shops/businesses that can do social distancing

I think they'll extend it but give some dates for some things opening.

I think they will extend, it's too early to end it. They have mentioned getting NHS appts going again for cancer and mental health patients, so I think that will be the first thing they do more of. I dont think schools will go back, but if they do, it will just be GCSE students and a level students.

3 more weeks but also they will tell us that things will start to relax after that time of the numbers work out.

I think ‘lockdown’ will be extended by 3 weeks, but restrictions will start to be lifted. I’m expecting primary schools to reopen 11th May.

We passed the peak on Apr 8th, so there’s no real justification for any further restrictions on schools.

Extend for 3 more weeks, then some relaxation of the rules on 1st June. Shops reopening with social distancing in place, maybe allowed to visit family and friends in small groups.

I’m in NI and the schools finish for 8 weeks at the end of June. I can’t see the schools opening until much later in the year.
Be a bit pointless for the kids to go back for a few weeks and then off again, and also very confusing for them.

Few more weeks but with some timeframes for after that would be my guess.

Extend lockdown for 3 more weeks.
I can see them start to reopen some things after that. Maybe allow v small groups to meet outside or reopen some non-essential shops. I don’t think schools will go back until the end of June-unless they tell vulnerable staff it’s fine to go back before then. I can’t see schools opening anywhere near ‘normal’ through-it’ll be 3 days a fortnight or mornings only.

Apparently, Imperial College is putting together a report to extract from the current measures.

We are seeing a stealth approach to easing of restrictions. Certain stores that have been briefed by retailers governing bodies. Construction going back.

It will be a slow easing of current measures.

Yes I think it'll be extended but with dates of when things will start easing

Lockdown as others describe.

Except Cornwall, who don’t want tourists.

I agree with all the above. It wont stop but some things might start ease. Meanwhile I will be completely mad and possibly unable to function in normal life.

@NikeDeLaSwoosh- No chance in hell primary schools open 11th May.

Chris Whittey has just been on the briefing saying they are still debating what effect schools will have on the R rate. No where near announcing a return date.

Schools would need time to put government procedures in place.

I can only assume you have been sniffing glue

I have heard the transport sector is planning to start running more services from mid-May, as they expect more people to be returning to work by then. But I would expect everything to be very gradual, looking at what is happening in countries ahead of us.

Me too.

If Chris estimates the R value is 0.7 now I think there will be another extension followed by some shops and industry opening.

I want a bubble group though but can't see how it would work.

A few non essential shops may open including garden centres, also hopefully things might be put in place for tips to reopen but I think I am just being hopeful

Report

The effect of primary schools opening on R has already been established and found to be negligible.

GreyGardens88 · 27/04/2020 18:34

Extension of the lockdown but with a promise to relax measures at the end of May (pub beer gardens, allowed to visit family and friends, allowed outside to pursue hobbies, but all indoor activities, pubs, restaurants, cinemas and large gathering remaining banned)

RigaBalsam · 27/04/2020 18:35

Theres really no concrete evidence and with the news today I think 11 May is too soon. June possibly though.

Do you have a link for that?

I’m hoping it’s not that Viner study which doesn’t actually show anything of the sort.

I think an extension with more emphasis on the NHS being allowed to get back to normal first. Maybe some lead on dates etc. May 11th for schools is laughable, when Chris Whitty himself said, they are still working out the effect on R, there is a probably link to corona virus and this inflammatory condition in children. Not to mention the health secretary was ‘very worried’ about the new development.
