Has anyone else not taken their kids out since lockdown began?

I've not taken my daughters out since lockdown began. We're not in the 'at risk' group, no existing health conditions I'm concerned about or anything. They've not asked to go out and we have a decent sized garden so they're outside at somepoint most days. But I'm beginning to question my judgment. Just curious if your all making the most of the allowed exercise time and going out with the kids? Am I wrong in not taking them for a walk round the block or a run on the field when I go with the dogs?

Well, I don’t know about ‘wrong’, it’s your choice. It isn’t mine & certainly wouldn’t be with children with no vulnerabilities. It’s not quite what Spanish children have been through, because of having a garden, but close enough to make me wonder why one would do that voluntarily.

How old are they? Doesn’t sound like they are getting enough exercise.

I cannot imagine. Mine need to walk at least a couple of miles a day or we get no sleep.

We're going out much less than usual but I want them to get SOME exercise at least.

How odd. Why would you not take your kids out for a walk? They are very low risk anyway for catching it themselves and if they aren’t seeing anyone else then what’s the problem?

DS hasn't been out. He's exercising at home (exercise bike, pull up bar, football etc) and we spend a lot of time in the garden but not outside the home. That's his choice.

Mine never want to leave the house/garden but love it once we're out. Due to the amount of whinging before we go, we're only going out two or three times a week. 7yo DS is more relaxed now we're driving for 10 mins or so before going for a walk as then we see fewer people. Today we saw one person in the far distance, on Wednesday, it was at least 20 but no one was anywhere near us. When we were just walking around our village, there are a couple of narrow paths and we always seemed to see someone at just the wrong moment.

I guess if you're happy, you're happy.
I am an anti-homebird. I am only happy getting away from home.
My first toddler used to sob when we came home.. guess he's similar to me.

We need to at least a 5 mile walk\cycle plus a few hours on the trampoline in order to get any kind of quiet time.

Mine are 6, 4 and 1. We get out for at least an hour every day.

Mine haven’t been out much either op. I am in the vulnerable category and every time I have tried to go out it’s impossible to stay 2 metres away from people all the time. It’s a busy area and the pavement are narrow, I just end up too stressed. I am planning on trying again tomorrow for their sakes. I would rather not myself.

To be honest I've only started taking mine out this week. I'm asthmatic but was concerned this was going on and on. I was also getting a bit worried that the eldest was starting to get panicky at any talk of going out and thought we needed to nip that in the bud. We've got a really big garden so loads of room for them to play and I was satisfied they were getting enough exercise previously. I'd say it's entirely up to you.

Mine are 1.5 and 3.5 and I’m not taking them out every day. 1.5 year old runs up to absolutely everyone and causes general consternation in a socially distancing park, so I don’t take them both out unless DP is available too.

Sorry but don't think it's healthy. I tell my 5yo we need to go out of the house and garden once every day because it's healthy for our minds. I think that's true. We do 40 mins to an hour every day at local park, field or playing fields.

We don’t live in the UK but we’re also in lockdown (in fact we went into lockdown 2 weeks before the UK). I’ve been taking my kids out for walks every day. We can easily avoid other people so I don’t see any harm in it.

I've got a teen who has barely left his bedroom! I've suggested he come out for a walk, join us in the garden for lunch etc.

He's not interested.

Not every day but most days for a walk or a bike ride. They are 1 and 4. I don't know why you wouldn't want to - it keeps us all sane.

No, I would find that puzzling unless there’s a vulnerability or you live somewhere urban so crowded that going for a walk is stressful in terms of social distancing. We live in a very rural area, but are out for hours every day with DS(8) around work and homeschooling. None of us would sleep well without a fair bit of fresh air and exercise.

We have, but not regularly. We are lazy bastards. I need to change that.

DH and DS are like this. Happy to play football in the back garden (its tiny) and watch TV.
DD on the other hand loves the outdoors and goes crazy if she doesn't get her walk every few days.
