When do we think airlines will start flying again or borders will open?

Hi guys,

A bit of background so people don't think I'm just keen to get on holiday -

Currently 31 weeks pregnant with my first and my partner is a German National. He is a MD of a company in Hamburg, so had to stay in Germany during this time to deal with work issues. Understandably, all flights he had booked up to June have been cancelled - which is scary considering I'll be ready to pop in June! He can't get a flight organised by the U.K. as he isn't a citizen here and we aren't married.
We were supposed to move house on the 3rd April - which was put on hold.

So, we have been trying to look at different options for him to get here for the birth ie driving, Eurotunnel etc. But this is currently 'illegal' Confused I just thought I'd ask some people on here to see if they have any helpful comments! Just don't really fancy being alone for the birth and after the birth.

Thanks for any help x

I wonder if in your exceptional circumstances, he could get some sort of waiver?

I've scoured the web to see if he could, but can't get any info. It's a hard thing to prove in terms of documentation for him, if it was me they'd be able to believe me from the humongous belly 😅

Our borders aren't shut are they? So hopefully he can get on a random flight that is running. I'd be ringing anyone I can.. june is a way off though - things may change.

Can he get a ferry OP? I know the ferries are still working to Hull & also Harwich.
Not an ideal solution obviously but better than nothing?

Just chucking in a slightly "going wrong way to begin with but you get a flight" option.Looks like BA are still running the very occasional (as in perhaps one or two a week) Berlin TXL - LHR service...Looks like there's one tomorrow..

Problem with Euro-tunnel is going to be the French entry requirements.

As Horsemad as said Ferry might be a good option if he is allowed on..

Uk border isn't closed and some flights are still operating (although v reduced). As pp said BA are still running some European flights?

Though he would now need to self isolate for 14 days on arrival in uk (and probably best if he's going to attend the birth).

Hi Claudia, my niece is German but at Uni here in the UK. She went back to Frankfurt in March just before lockdown and came back on Saturday on a BA flight to London no problem. Not sure if they are flying from Hamburg but he could get a train to Frankfurt if not? Hope that helps

Hi guys, thanks for all your replies!

According to the news this morning, he will most likely need to quarantine for 2 weeks here before the birth now.
He's really not happy with this as he would have to be out of work for 6 weeks (2 weeks UK quarantine + 2 weeks here with baby and me + 2 weeks quarantine when he goes back to Germany) which he really can't do. And that's if the little man decides to come near his due date! 😂

I do feel bad for him in this situation, but still can't help but feel a bit upset with the feeling that work is his priority. Plus, he probably won't be over every weekend because of this 2 week quarantine either side of a visit.

But I do need to remember that we are lucky as we are in good health and will be welcoming the best gift ever during this time! Our little boy will have quite the story to tell growing up ❤️
