AIBU to think that so many people don't observe the 2m distancing

Ok. So just been to do the dreaded shopping. Now, I understand that sometimes, in shops or passing people along the road you can't always observe the 2m distance but in those situations you do your best. However, in queues outside some shops most people just seem to be standing a step apart and are so close to the person in front they look as if they are together. Just experienced that now. All standing like that in the queue for Tesco. Luckily I was last in the queue so as I always do I left way more than 2m between myself and the person in front, leaving as much space as possible without being ridiculous. The other people that don't seem to care but are slightly different are those you see advancing towards you along the pavement, you walk into the road for them or dodge into a gateway to let them pass and they continue without even acknowledging you. A smile, nod or a Thank you surely isn't too hard? Why do so many people just not get the 2m distancing advice?

Because it’s getting very boring now.

You can’t catch it just by being within 2 metres of someone unless they sneeze or cough on you. I try my best but sometimes in shops it’s difficult.

I think people are just fed up with it all now. You can stand 2m apart and then when you get to the front you get handed a basket / trolley that’s already been touched by god knows how many people, you then get in the store and are given a token disinfectant wipe to then wipe your trolley down with. After it’s been dirty when you’ve already touched it. The whole thing is pointless.

People walking about wearing gloves touching everything when they might as well not bother and just wash their hands when they get in.

People wearing masks that don’t fit properly and are just useless.

Everyone is just pissed off with the whole thing now.

Before anyone leaps on me, I try and follow the rules. I stand 2m or more away from people. But often I do feel it’s all a waste of time.

Where I live, most people seem to think 2 metres is 2 feet

This isn't true. There is evidence that people can catch it by just talking to each other, like with measles. Especially if they're talking while inhaling and exhaling forcefully.

There was a number of people in a tightly packed church congregation who caught it from one person. One theory is because they were all singing, which involves a lot of breath being inhaled deeply and exhaled forcefully

2 metres is actually a huge distance. In supermarkets etc it us very difficult to stay that far away from anyone and actually buy anything especially in smaller stores.
In queues though there's no excuse.

Right, I’ll stop belting out power ballads in Waitrose then.

I’m relieved tbh that people are becoming to use some critical thinking about risk. I was getting seriously worried about our ability to come out of lock down.

But if they do, you're stuffed aren't you? You can't control when they're going to cough and sneeze so it's common sense to stick to the 2 metre rule. I agree with the OP, can't understand why so many people don't seem to make any attempt to do it.

On my walk today, had two of the covidiots. First, I was about three quarters of the way under a canal bridge - footpath barely wide enough for one person, let alone 2 and no way to keep 2 metres. Some stupid woman walking towards me - I assumed she'd wait until I got out from under the bridge to pass, but no, she headed straight on towards me and we had to pass with an inch or two between us. Then, coming back up a flight of narrow steps - exactly the same happened, I was nearly at the top and some bloke starts walking down, when he could have easily waited a few seconds and again, we passed with a few inches to spare. Just what are these morons thinking??

There's some lovely walks around here down canals but I don't feel safe as the towpath is narrow and you just can't do 2 metres gap at all.

I have been walking along the roads and doing a bit of criss crossing to avoid people.
