Is lockdown over? SMH!

I have seen more cars and people today than any other day. Even neighbour two doors down has a group of workmen in the garden. I fear once official lockdown is lifted it'll be 'Yay, back to normal' attutide for many.

If you can’t work from home, you can go to work, therefore the workmen can work in the garden. There is nothing wrong with them being there.

I think a lot of people are back at work now if they can't work from home, which is totally fine. It's also been made clear that you can drive to exercise and can leave your house more than once a day, so I guess people are making the most of it now. We've never really had a strict lockdown and it seems that people are starting to realise.

I personally think some places are reopening slowly. I was due spectacles and unfortunately the opticians closed their doors the day before they were due to arrive and that was right at the beginning of the lockdown. Yesterday however the secretary rang and said they were able to deliver my spectacles 🤷‍♀️

Lots of restaurants near us that closes to start with have reopened for take away and you're forgetting lots of people were never made to finish work anyway

You have always been allowed to go to work if you can't work from home. That was there at the start of all this, in the first briefing Boris gave. Plenty of workplaces never shut. All the "Essential workers only!!" screaming on here came from people who are either unable to listen, read things properly, or get all their info from Facebook

Many business's chose to shut as they couldn't keep their supply chain together, and also needed to alter shifts/internal layouts so they could work with social distancing. Lots have done that now, so they are ready to crack on and get their employees back. It won't be possible for all yet, as childcare will be difficult for many people.

The manufacturing company I work for did not completly shut, and will be expecting everyone to work in some way from the week starting 4 May.

Yep everyone seems to have gone back to normal round here (South Norfolk). It’s ridiculous. Families popping in and out of houses (seen loads of them at it on my daily walk just now), roads full of cars, Etc etc! I think people are just fed up and giving up with it all.

When this was happening in Italy we were hearing all the bad stuff, the terrible death numbers, photos of army trucks lined up in the streets waiting to collect dead bodies, and so when we first got lockdown we took it seriously.
Now of course the UK media are downplaying the bad stuff I think so the seriousness of it is being lost on most of us, unless you work in a hospital or have lost someone close to you it all seems like a bit of an over-reaction. I think it's natural for people to start bending the rules a bit. We're not, so far, but I can understand why some people are.

Same in my area yesterday and today! People are suddenly acting as though kickdown is all over with. I'd been impressed at how well people were sticking to it before, then all of a sudden...

Next door currently has several mates round - and his family members who do not live with him. They've been out in the back yard having a BBQ and drinking all day. Neighbours over the back (several households) are all gathered in one yard nattering away (and coughing!!) while all their kids run riot in the back alley. And there's been a lot more traffic and people walking past the house the last couple of days too.

It pisses me off as I've been trying so hard to soothe my frustrated kids, who just want to play out with other kids and have fun. They don't want to be stuck inside doing school work when they can see multiple households not bothering to abide by the law!

I feel there needs to be more of a healthy middle. There is nothing wrong with workmen working in the garden HOWEVER people shouldn't be meeting up in groups outside of their households.

It doesn't have to be all or nothing. I have noticed more people and cars about, to be honest I like it! As long as people maintain social distancing life needs to go on.

Same here, metropolitan county in the north of England, and it's been building up like this for a week or 2.

Same traffic on the roads as before the lockdown. Supermarkets and big stores full of people, some even more busy than before lock down. No one social distancing, not that many even bothered trying anyway. People having parties and visiting each others houses.

I fear this will mean another spike in cases in a few weeks time.

I also think some people have been isolated for a long time now so probably dont have it so they are risking meeting people who have also been isolating for a long time.

This is simply and obviously not true. The government specifically made lists of businesses and workplaces that cannot stay open. The obvious ones are bars, clubs, gyms, cafes, hair/beauty salons, cinemas, theatres etc.

Agreed, I drove to pick up a food shop and the roads were busier than ever, can't imagine too many people finishing work at 2pm! I can see how people are starting to flout restrictions, I personally don't know anyone affected by covid-19, we're in Scotland where numbers are low and yes my sister is a nurse and also reports empty wards. If lots of people, like me, aren't personally affected they're going to start thinking this is all an over reaction.

Isn't this good though, there will be far more cases and we'll get to the 70k dead quicker.
Then those with some sense will still be alive.
Get the kids in school too, and a few cafes open, stop social distancing, too.
Don't drag it out too long, get out there and socialise.

It is still quiet round here but I think it will only be a matter of time. Lockdown was only ever going to last as long as people were prepared to accept it and felt the fear. In my area we remain largely unaffected and people have just had enough of the restriction.

Flaxmeadow - don't be obtuse. We all know (at least those who bothered to read the actual government directions) that there were certain business types and places which were ordered to close. However, those not on the list CAN remain open, if they can work safely, and the work can't be done from home.

I haven't seen anything like this where I live. Went for a walk with DS on the local park and it was so quiet. The supermarket had a much smaller queue than it did last week.

We have been told, there is sufficient guidance in place for us to send the majority of our engineers back to work from next week, by the H&S Exec. We could have gone back from last Monday. But we were in the initial first 3 weeks of furlough.

So yes, more people may be working.

Have seen a lot more traffic today than previously so perhaps people are just deciding to deconfine. Lockdown fatigue was bound to happen.

People need to work. If you can’t work from home it’s fine to go work so I guess that’s where they’re going.
