A Question about Death Rate Chart

Firstly apologies if this makes no sense my sleep is shot to shit at the moment. I also felt very on edge after watching Matt Hancock at the conference yesterday as something didn't seem right.

So I think we now all know that when we are given the daily death totals this is not indicative of those who died the previous day and is made up of often quite a long lag. At this stage is it not possible for us to be shown a graph showing how many actually died per day as whilst we still keep showing backlog of deaths that chart is never going to fall and therefore we won't meet one of the five pillars they have said need to be met before they will consider relaxing the lockdown.

I know overall the death rate will remain the same.

The figures are updated, I think it takes about a fortnight usually to get to the final figure.

Why do you think the death rate won't fall though? As the number of cases come down so will deaths (its keeping it down that's the problem).

If watching Mr. Hancock upsets you so, you can always switch him off.

Problem solved.

Thank you 😊

Hmm Weet not quite sure where you read he upset me but great advice Hmm

Thanks for the link, I know obviously the rates will fall but thought it would be helpful for people to see the actual daily rate as well as the cumulative rates.

There are lots of graphs around which show the actual daily death rates and the point at which it is unlikely that rates will change further due to the lag. The FT has them & the telegraph & in the daily numbers thread - right here on mn ! - there are a couple of really excellent graphs.

It seems to be widely accepted that peak daily deaths in hospital happened on April 8th nationally and April 4th in London. We’re now plateauing & slowly reducing. Deaths outside hospital are reported weekly by the ONS as they are registered.

Incidentally the reporting lag is reducing over time - think they must be getting more efficient!
