Covid

4 weeks sore throat

I've had a sore throat for going on 4 weeks now. It disappears for a few days but came back again. No other symptoms except I'm tired more often and ocassional headaches but that could be general lethargy rather than fatigue.

My question is has anyone had a sore throat for this length of time and it then developed into further corona symptoms?

I hadnt been worried until now because I also have recently developed mastitis so I'm on antibiotics for the infection which and because I am run down from that it's making me fearful.

Have had something similar - similar length of time, but only actually a proper sore throat for a day or two.

The rest of the time it feels like I've got something stuck in my throat. Not painful but annoying.

Not developed into anything here. My DH has had the full works.

Just saw your post and thought id respond, as i've been suffering coronvirus symptoms for the last 38 days.Been messaging on the 40+ thread (now 40 plus plus). Coming out the end of it now, but i've had a sore throat for nearly four weeks and the Dr thinks it is linked. I've also had the fatigue and headaches, along with lots of other symptoms, but the sore throat was one of the last of them. If you haven't developed any further symptoms this is good and given the time, I would say just to rest up and give your body the tie to fully recover. My Gp said the virus behaves very differently to any other, so the throat could just be a post viral symptom. Hope this helps

Interesting. I have had a sore throat on and off for nearly 4 weeks. The first week was the worst. It felt like something was stuck, i thought tonsilitis but also had a headache for 3 to 4 days that paracetamol didn't touch. I was fatigued and had an afternoon nap for 2 days. No temp and no cough though Confused have been fine the oast few weeks apart from the sore throat! Oh and sleeping for 10 hours every night but that could be lockdown mode!

@xxyzz I could have written exactly the same post. Only addition is that my glands have been intermittently achy also. I have never experienced a virus that has lingered for so long. I don’t believe it’s COVID-19, but it’s definitely unusual for me. Interesting that others have experienced similar.

Yes I have had sore throat for some weeks now although mainly in the mornings and it gets a bit better through the day. Also headaches, in fact today is the first day I haven't had a headache. I never considered Coronavirus to be honest. No cough, no fever.

I had a sore throat for the whole of March but nothing else. I'm assuming it wasn't C-19.

I've had the same! Going on 3 weeks... sometimes it's a burning sensation, sometimes an itch.. hasn't developed into anything major

I also had a sore throat for the whole of March which was very sore at times and my glands were up. I don't think it was covid. It's gone now but now hitting hay fever time so sneezing has started.

Sorry, OP, forgot to add that as well as the sore throat, I also lost my sense of smell and taste for the first couple of weeks. They came back, but the vague sore throat is still here.

Together with the fact that my dh had the full coronavirus symptoms (temperature, painful chest, lung pain, chills etc), starting a few days before my sore throat started, I'm pretty sure what I have had is coronavirus-related. Though without a test, I can't be sure.

I had this in Feb.
Slight cough at night too.
Sore throat in the mornings lasted about 4 weeks.
Very odd.

I am so glad you posted this as tonight I have been googling whether just having a sore throat could be a sign of covid19. My dh and I have had an intermittent sore throat for weeks. At the beginning we also had a lot of lethargy, headaches and slight upset stomach but now have just the sore throat. It seems to get a bit better during the day and then comes again in the evening. It's been dragging on for such a long time.

DH and I have had very similar symptoms. Wake up with a sore throat and headache, feels better throughout the day (although headache was a bit more persistent) then both start again in the evening along with a cough. We also have had upset stomach several times. We have 2 DC who have had coughs at night and stomach upsets too.

I feel like I had the full gamut of symptoms apart from fever & breathlessness. I had a sore throat off & on for around 3 weeks. The best way to describe it would be a dry sore throat. Glands in my neck were also up. I had fatigue for about 2 weeks. I had a couple of spells of dizziness and 2 days of headache. Muscles aches and soreness across my back between my shoulder blades for 2 days at the same time as the headache. Nausea came & went for a few days. I had a very slight tickly cough when I laid down in bed. I didn't lose my sense of smell but strangely I kept smelling non existent smoke. I have to say although its a long list of symptoms they were spread out over time & actually weren't severe. I only needed paracetamol once. I always felt better during the day then symptoms would arrive late afternoon.

How odd. Dh and I were discussing this last night. We both have had a sore throat that has lasted 3 weeks. Children are all fine.

How odd, I have the same. 4 weeks now of an on off sore throat. It was worse when it started, very tickly and more sore, with stuffy/runny nose and aches and pains, occasional coughing at night and upset stomach a couple of times. It started about 3 days after my son started with a very high fever and a cough which lasted a week, with his cough lasting longer. I've been wondering if my symptoms were linked too as his symptoms did seem to be exactly like the virus. It's annoying and I want it to stop now, but it doesn't seem to be getting worse and I have much more energy now than I did at the start.

Me too. Lingering sore throat, which is fine for a day or two then comes back - been going on for about a month or so. Headaches intermittently too.

HappyBirthdayQueenieMarm · 22/04/2020 08:22

O took anti histamin and it solved it so for me the sore throat was from hay fever and possibly all the dust from wankers neighbour.

Report
Aus84 · 22/04/2020 11:16

Poor oral hygiene can cause those symptoms too.

HarrietOh · 22/04/2020 11:23

Just developed a sore throat yesterday, I do get hayfever but have taken my anti-hisatmines, and I wouldn't normally get a sore throat from hayfever. I've taken my temperature and all fine so think it's just a random bug, although amazed that I've been alone for over 4 weeks now and I can still pick these things up Grin

I'm nearly 2 weeks of this OP, sore throat, slight cough, have to clear my throat, headache and tired, low energy. Mine just happened over night, very odd as no 'cold' symptoms, nose is clear, no aches thankfully. Also occasional nausea and loss of taste.
Not hayfever as anti hists not doing anything, nor are painkillers. Just riding it out.
Hope all you who are feeling rough are on the mend soon

noraclavicle · 22/04/2020 11:38

It could be completely unrelated to Covid, OP. No hard and fast answers, but it could be environmental, pollution/allergy-related depending on where you live?
I had a sore throat dating back months to before Christmas and put it down to a phenomenon cited as ‘London throat.’ It’s gone away since lockdown & 1955-level traffic! Also had what was possibly Covid earlier this month & sore throat wasn’t a symptom. I have a slight one now, but am putting it down to mild seasonal allergy.
