Can I get a window cleaner round?

My windows are filthy and I’m 38 weeks pregnant so don’t have the energy to do them myself at the moment. Would it be ok to get a window cleaner round? He’ll only be doing the outside so there will be zero contact - and I pay by bank transfer...

I think they are still allowed because you don't technically have to go near them. X

Our window cleaner just lets us know the day before he comes, so we can unlock gates for him. He just gets on with it (no contact) and we transfer money when he has finished.

Unless the rules have changed (which is possible as they're updated daily) I'm sure non contact jobs can still go ahead.

Yeah ours came last week. They text before and asked that everyone stay in whilst they were here. We always pay BACs anyway

Yes, we had ours round this week.

Ours texted last week and said that they’re not working for the time being. The text said that driving around in the van means that they’re making non-essential journeys and will text again when they’re able to resume.

Yes it is fine. Our window cleaner told DH he'd lost 1/3 of his business, we are still able to pay him so happy to keep doing so.

Are you allowed to? - yes

Can you find one - who knows Grin

It's fine. Our local one is still working.

The text said that driving around in the van means that they’re making non-essential journeys and will text again when they’re able to resume.

Surely it's for work so it is essential? People can still work out of the home so long as they can maintain social distancing Confused

Mine is still coming regularly.

Yes. Anyone who cannot work from home can continue working.

I thought that too, and I expect that our window cleaner has misunderstood the advice. I’ve just re-read the text and the actual wording used is “under lockdown restrictions we are not allowed to
commute”.

Maybe your window cleaner has someone vulnerable at home at doesn't want the excess risk of petrol stations, handling money etc. I'd be very cautious before telling someone what they ought to do!

Report
MadisonAvenue · 22/04/2020 10:19

@MRex I’m not telling anyone what they should do! I was just sharing the text I’d received.

Report
MRex · 22/04/2020 16:19

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like I was accusing, it just sounded like you thought he'd misunderstood advice when it might just be how he chose to say he wasn't coming.
