Do you think the daily exercise thing might stick?

Are most people taking their "right" to daily exercise or does it just seems that way? Grin

For me, this is a particularly important part of "the rules" and I'm glad the UK government has, so far, been able to allow it. I was very worried in the early days when we saw pictures of crowds in the outdoors, that it might be curtailed. Thankfully it only seemed to take a couple of days for most (enough) people to "get it".

Going back to my childhood, my mother always saw getting us outdoors everyday as essential. Even as teens in school holidays we would be sent "out" if we hadn't been anywhere for a day or two. I don't think I was aware at the time and Mum probably wouldn't have used the language (40ish years ago) but she understood that it was important for our mental health and wellbeing.

As an adult I have always known I'm happier and healthier if I get outdoors for a short walk during the day.

I'd like to think that a good thing could come from this and more people recognise the importance of daily exercise outdoors and stick with it.

If you are new to a daily walk or run as a result of this crisis, do you think you will keep it up? Or if time really wouldn't allow that under usual circumstances will you at least do it more often than you did?. Or will it all be straight back to normal?

Are there any other changes that have been forced on you that you might keep up?

I’d normally be getting my walk as part of my commute / weekend shop. Although I do consciously make sure I get out every day.

I started the couch to 5k thing before the corona crisis. Finished it last week. I am now running for about 40 mins early morning before a lot of people are out. I feel soooooooooo much healthier and am on a high after each run. I will definitely carry on!

I've always taken my 2 young children out for a daily walk when they're home (not at school / nursery) . We have a dog though, so have always had a reason. I genuinely couldn't get my head around a recent Facebook post from a mummy blogger who said that she'd never taken her children for a walk, just for the sake of having a walk. They were 2 and 5. There were loads of posters agreeing with her.

If I don't exercise regularly, I feel really sluggish, stop sleeping and my physical and mental energy go out of sync.

If my DCs don't burn off enough energy they expend it by fighting eachother, getting very irritable and bouncing around the house every night.

I've a,ways been a big one for going for walks, it's my favourite hobby but something I've started since lockdown is home workouts as I've been joining in with PE with Joe. I'll definitely keep this up. I'm a single mum to a 2 year old so actually was guilty of never doing any proper exercise that got my heart rate up but I really recognise the benefits of it now. And doing it at home isn't actually as depressing as I remember from when I've tried in the past.
