Covid

DV incident. No further action due to “the current climate”

Cannot post too much info.

SEN young mum assaulted by DP for a 2nd time.

DC staying with paternal GM atm who has previously assaulted the young mum (think major abuse situ)

Latest assault took place last week in which I personally heard the beating down the phone. The young mum is thankfully safe with friends now however the police will not be taking further action as apparently it will be one word against another and I should understand in the current climate it would not be in the public interest. I should also understand that “people are dying you know.”

Am I really being that selfish to expect the police to “waste valuable resources”?!

No I'd take that further.

Are you telling us the police said they would take no further action because covid 19?

Contact local MP. Call Domestic Abuse hotline.

Definitely take it further, provided she wants to. She could be the next person dying otherwise.

I would complain to the police officer complaints commission

This is not what the fucking home secretary herself said should happen

Complain to her as well

Report
Protectivebigsis · 18/04/2020 22:20

Absolutely report this to the complaints commission. More people will be dying if that is their attitude. That’s disgusting. Angry

I was thinking IPCC.

SEN mum cannot action things for herself but I will.

The IPCC aren’t worth a bean

I also think she’s less likely to be listetened to if they think she won’t stand up to them. Please do ring the advice lines, I think they can help faster. The IPCC will probably delay even dealing with it till covid is “over”.

This needs addressing as well.

Sadthat's awful and completely contrary to what Priti Patel said. Said.

Complain on her behalf, go to the force first before the iopc as it would at least get reviews that way. Did they even take a statement from you?

Really? I was hoping they might actually take it seriously? I have never had dealings with them before. I have pondered calling Women’s Aid but wondered how much they could help if it’s me calling?

this needs addressing as well

I hear you 100% trust me but try telling that to Social Services when the paternal GMs DD is a colleague of the SW (yes really!)

No statement taken. I had to chase a response from the PC who had dealt with the incident at the time. Was just made to feel selfish.

FFS, given the increase in deaths due to DV during lockdown I would have thought it was especially important to convict abusers right now. It also leaves a paper trail when it comes to custody and visitation with the DC.

Is there any way to complain and appeal this decision?

Report
PicsInRed · 18/04/2020 22:45

When the government gave a paltry £2million to DV services, in context of hundred of billions of coronavirus spending...I think it was clear how many fucks they give about DV.

They should understand that some of the people dying are as a result of DV - more than 'normal'.

Initially I will probably refer to IPCC and also contact the local MP for the area.

As suggested by pp I will probably use an advice line.

I’m hovering between rage and sadness.

Try a women's aid number in your area or google an IDVA close by to help- usually telephone advice/ support so you should get through/ get a return call quite soon.

Have pictures of her bruises been taken for evidence? The police should have spoke about this to you/ her.

Thanks for the links.

Have pictures of her bruises been taken for evidence? The police should have spoke about this to you/ her.

On this occasion the attending officers just took her to a safe place and did not gather evidence.

After 1st incident yes and the bruises on her back were seen by police and hospital staff.

Then she needs to ask for a different sw team to deal with it.

They aren’t allowed to have conflicts of interest like that!

I would write to my MP and Jess Philips (shadow minister for DV). Try tweeting Jess you might get a response.

They aren’t allowed to have conflicts of interest like that!

I have raised this issue with SS myself and was told that there was no problem as only the SW working the case has access to the file.

The major problem in this situation is that the young mum being abused is scared of the ‘D’P and his family and after every incident is swiftly manipulated into taking the blame for herself (think it was all my fault).

I’m thinking MP is the only way forward, particularly after this latest incident.

That child does not sound safe with the PG. Are social services/the police aware of her history and that GM has the child?
Nothing sounds right about that situation, and I hope the poor woman gets some justice.

The police statement is incorrect.
You/her call your local council, get the number of the local women’s aid. Call them, tell them about attack and police. I know the police will have a rethink!

Also, the government has a campaign out at the moment for DA.

Help her to help herself

Thank you all for what you do for others

For many reasons I can’t post here IMO I don’t believe the child is safe.

Police/SW are aware of PGs history however as the young mum has SEN and is suffering really badly with PND (DC 18M) SW thinks PG is fine. PG assaulted the mum when baby was 2 weeks old (slap in the face) even though police were involved at the time the mum was manipulated into saying she attacked first (she definitely did not).

It’s a mess I know but how is this young mum supposed to get help when those supposed to be there to help allow this to happen?

I will also refer yet again to adult services first thing Monday as I’m sure I will be left waiting for responses from other agencies.
