I just wonder how this is going to work?

Will holiday clubs be allowed to open? Or will schools be expected to stay open?

Schools won't stay open because teachers will want their 6 weeks off

Grandparents have offered to help us as the 12 week initial isolation will be over by then

No one knows yet. Schools have been made to stay open over Easter for key workers children - unclear if they will have to do something similar over the summer.

I think some private schools (if able) May extend term over some of the summer holidays (certainly those that haven’t offered a discount). Almost certainly won’t happen in state sector.

Holiday clubs - it is unclear, but @lovelydream one of the big reasons to not shut schools was concerns grandparents would be called in to help (and they are more likely to get sick). I can’t see that guidance changing after 12 weeks (virus will still be here) so I wonder if holiday clubs will be allowed to operate (maybe with reduced numbers).

I really don’t know. I’m not a teacher but hope that schools do close as I think both the teachers who are in and keyworkers children need a break/change of scenery and for the school to be deep cleaned Ready for the new term if there is one.

I’m hoping the government is thinking ahead and planning something but I’m not convinced!

@Zogsbigsister keyworkers with children won’t be able to just have 6 weeks off for the summer. Their children will need to go somewhere.

@zogabigsister

Most of the schools in my area don't have all the teachers in every day.......they are home like the rest of us.

People will lose their jobs - especially women - if we can't get back to work. If none of us have been around anyone in 12-16 weeks I highly doubt that the risk of infection is going to be high if grandparents help - mine are in their early 60s and not "vulnerable" or have "underlying health conditions"

@lovelydream I agree with you about job losses. I also agree women will be disproportionately hit. My in laws were planning to come down in the summer so we are in the same situation, but that was a big concern about schools shutting and I don’t see how that advice is going to change. The virus will spread more once we lift restrictions.

Teachers at our school are working on a rota of 2.5 days every 4 weeks. They were open Easter holidays including all holidays. I think they will remain open in the summer holidays if need be.

I'm hoping that if workplaces are allowed to reopen, holiday clubs will be allowed to reopen.

The local holiday club that I use is planning on opening for the May half term and the summer holidays, as it currently stands with lockdown they haven't yet been told they can't. Obviously if they're told not to by the government they won't but they are taking bookings at the moment.

Dh & I are teachers who also run holiday activities.

We have no idea what is going to happen this year or if we’ll be able to run.

What we do doesn’t work with effective social distancing.

It’s not as simple as just take fewer kids as a lot of our costs are fixed and it simply becomes uneconomical to run if we’re not full.

We may well need to be on some kind of rota in our schools anyway.

And it’s going to be really hard to tell even if we go back to school say after May half term because after a period of time at school things may well need to lock down again over the summer anyway.

Currently we’re veering towards not running but 🤷‍♀️

I am currently working from home with the kids and I am hoping that by June, if schools and nurseries aren't open that restrictions will be lessened enough for them to go to my parents for a few days a week at least because I am getting next to nothing done with them at home just now.
