Dog desperately needs grooming

Does anybody else have a dog who is struggling in the heat.

We have a Maltese cross who needs groomed and he is struggling with the heat. Groomers are not essential workers and therefore we can't get him groomed.

Should I attempt it? I think probably not but what is the alternative.

My neighbour has clipped his Dulux ddog himself! Canny job imo!!

I groomed my dog with clippers, he now has tramlines. Fortunately the neighbourhood dogs are too polite to laugh at him. However he isn't suffering in the heat.
Go for it, what's the worst that can happen? It will grow even if you make a complete hash of it and in that situation you will care more than your dog will.

I bought some dog clippers online and have just done our Cavapoo and Sproodle myself. Cost £24.99 and they have all the head attachments etc. I've no experience and have done an alright job, just started with a number 4 and gradually went down as I got more confident

We did our Maltese...it’s definitely a 2 person job but otherwise fine! Buy a set with scissors/thinning scissors/all the attachments and look for instructions on YouTube (wash dog and blow dry first)

We have done our labradoodle ourselves (once...we regretted it!) before and might have to do it soon. He looked so terrible, like a scraggly long-legged rat. I've clipped horses for national level events before so they have to look pretty smart and the dog took longer than a horse between two of us!
We have some little £20.00 clippers of Amazon that are great.

What heat? 21 degrees isn’t hot, by any definition, unless your dog is a husky?

Get the clippers and mow away, who cares how your dog looks if it is helping him in the heat.

Before and after
They're both a lot happier and have managed the hot weather so much better today

Surely there are multiple videos on youtube to watch and get the basics? Start with just a trim, and if confident, cut off more.

My pugs nails are getting towards needing trimmed. It's becoming clear that I am going to have to consider doing it myself.

I am not looking forward to it. Grin

Our cockapoo is struggling with the heat and can’t see as hair is in his eyes. Ordered clippers today, they’re arriving Monday. Tried with thinning scissors but he was having none of it. He normally has a clipper cut every 4 weeks and dh put his hair clippers on and dog didn’t mind him coming near him with them so hopefully will be able to do it ourselves.

Hi :) just to let you all know clipping your dogs wont be what is keeping them cool, that is what the fur Is for. To warm them and to cool them. Grooming is to remove knots keep them clean and make them less maintenance. So dont worry to much about you dogs being too hot. Just put measures in place to keep them cool, shade cooling Matt's ect.

All our local groomers opened last week! I'd call around!

Some groomers are open. Not here however. Ive just just ordered clippers and am going to do our cocker myself. She is just clipped all over with ear and tail done with scissors.
If I can do a decent job Ill save myself £32 each groom once lockdown is over!
If she is a mess then it will grow back and the groomers can fix it for me when they open.
Win win!
