Government food parcels

I saw an earlier thread on this but can’t locate it.
I was surprised to receive a large box of food from the government today. I am on the shielded list and when I registered on the gov website I ticked the ‘needing help with getting food’ box as I had read somewhere that the supermarkets may not offer me priority slots if left unticked? I do need those supermarket delivery slots as I live alone, but apparently I will now receive these Free boxes weekly unless I untick the box on the gov website. Not sure what to do as I feel uncomfortable taking the free food. Does anyone have any experience with this?

I’m really intrigued what’s in it x

Friends of ours were in the same situation as you and rang the local council who helped to redistribute it. They need the delivery slots but are able to pay.

Hi. Same thing here. I was told my supermarket that I needed to register for it so I did and got the box on Tuesday. I am giving what we won't use to people in our village who will.

I also got a call from our local council and explained to them that I didn't need the box and they said they would make a note. They also asked how much food I had in the house so hopefully I won't get another one next week

That’s helpful, thank you. I will make a few calls tomorrow. I can afford my food as long as the supermarket slots are available.

We get it, I don't feel bad, I can't always guarantee we can get good so I'm grateful. If you don't want it just tell them?

My MIL just passed hers on the the local food bank? I think a volunteer came to collect it from her doorstep?

My neighbour could do with it but he's not eligible as he's 83 but in good health. As far as I can tell.
