How do I register for online deliveries for my elderly dad?

He's never shopped online and doesn't have an email address. I've tried to register for him by creating one but it just says it doesn't recognise him as elderly/vulnerable. He's over 70 so should definitely be getting priority. Surely many over 70s won't have email addresses/online accounts?

Does anyone have any advice on what to do? Or managed to register successfully for an elderly relative?

It varies depending on which supermarket - they are all running deliveries slightly differently. Easiest thing is for you to add his address to your own account and book delivery slots for him. If he is going to be doing the orders himself he will need an email address.

We order meals from a company that delivers them straight to the freezer. I think its called Wiltshire Farm foods or somesuch.

Have you added him to the government register? You can also order specific items from a shortlist via Morrisons Doorstep.

The government register is for extremely vulnerable not for elderly who are high risk category. If he has an existing Sainsbury’s account t they will priorities him or he can create an Iceland account and click on the elderly button.
Or use Morrisons phone service.

Morrisons Customer Services team have set up a dedicated elderly and vulnerable phone line for those customers to place an order over the phone.

They can place an order from a selection of 45 essential groceries for doorstep delivery.

The order is then matched to a local store who picks the order and delivers it directly to the customer the following day.

If you have friends or family in need of this help and are unable to shop in store, please ask them to call 0345 611 6111 and select option 5 to place an order for Doorstep delivery.

The order will take 24 hours to process, and payment will be taken through a contactless card by the delivery driver. No contact with the driver will be made and the machine will be placed on a wall etc for people to put their cards into.

This service is available 8-4pm Mon-Friday excluding bank holidays.

Has he had a sheilding letter?

I wouldn't call being over 70 elderly! Does he have other health conditions, if not, he is not a priority I am afraid. Sorry, but my three brothers happen to be over 70, and this just made me laugh, thinking of how they would react.

Just as an aside, there now seem to be far more slots available for general shoppers, I have managed to get one with Waitrose and one with Ocado over the last couple of weeks, so you don't necessarily need to be registered to get a delivery slot.

My in laws have been given priority due to their age (late 70s) by Waitrose who identified them by their MyWaitrose card usage/details if that's any use?

Some supermarkets are giving priority to over 70s (rather than just the shielded list) but in practice getting in contact and getting processed for the list is not easy. My DM is 80, not managed to get her on any priority list yet.

I think all you can do is keep trying to contact them.

Sainsburies are no longer giving priority to their existing customers over 70 - just those on the government list . So don’t waste time with them !

Hmmm being elderly alone doesn't qualify as extremely vulnerable mind. Obv I don't know your DF or his medical history but there would be more than just his age to get delivery slots

How do you access the list to add yr details to it? There wasn't a clickable link in that article

Do you have a big co-op nearby? They deliver. You don't need to register, just see when the next available slot is. I think it's only Sainsbury's who are only giving slots to people with letters. All the others are prioritising those with letters, but then it is possible to get slots without a letter. Tesco's have slots (but in a few weeks), Asda are only 2 weeks ahead. It may say no slots available now but they release new slots every day. Tesco at midnight, Asda at 10pm. Register his address with your email and keep trying. Maybe useco-op or Iceland for the next week and Asda or Tesco for the week after?

Thanks for all the replies. I didn't realise they weren't automatically giving all elderly over 70 priority. He does have several health conditions but nothing serious enough to put him in the high risk category.

I've registered with Iceland and they seem to have slots. Thank you!
