Conspiracy theories- sister gone mad...?

So, I'm close to my sister- I love her to bits. Without her, I have no idea what my life would have been like - I owe her so much.
But she has started posting loads of videos etc about conspiracy theories ( mostly American in origin- she's not American).
It's just..bonkers. I watched a few of the videos, and I'm appalled she can believe this stuff.
She's a small business owner who lives in a small town. I'm just, perplexed she can believe it. I've suggested that she may want to think about what she posts as she could seriously damage her reputation.
We've agreed to draw a line under the
I love her, but the respect I have for her has taken a massive hit.
Has anyone else had experience with this?

Does she believe them or is it just entertainment? I love to listen to podcasts about ghosts, alien abductions and timeslips. I don't think they are actually true, its just for fun. I find 'what ifs' interesting. Maybe suggest to her that she should have a separate identity to discuss these things away from her business name.

She genuinely believes them- like that the Covid crisis is a world wide conspiracy to strip people of their rights

The above poster has a point. I find the fact people believe in such things fascinating. I wonder if people believe in them because they make life more interesting (without realising this is their incentive, of course).

Furthermore, some people are very trusting. They believe if someone tells them something, even over the internet, it must be true. As a young adult I believed weapons of destruction must exist in Iraq because politicians said they did and they wouldn't lie about such things.

Try as I might to rule out the conspiracy theories, I just can't right them off entirely. It wouldn't be the first time we've been lied to.

I don’t think it was a conspiracy to strip people of rights but it’s a great product for government now they’ve found it.

She mustn’t put it on her business page though. I’ve recently found out some people have been believing in this for years but they would never say it in public in a way that linked to their work.

Wow - just wow!! So the leaders of the whole world got together to organise this in secret - even those at war? And said leaders are all having a wild time somewhere (in secret) as obviously their rights haven't been taken as well? There are no words......

My cousin keeps posting stuff, and believes, that the virus was created by Bill Gates to cut the population.

@eaglejulesk
I know! And that the UN are in on it. As in the same folks who brought us the list of universal human rights.

Yes, she believes the thing about Bill Gates as well.

I'd unfold her. If it has an impact on her reputation, that's on her.

People who think it’s to cull the population- even the worst projections don’t do a decent job of that. A proper cull would be at least 40%.

But then these people probably see no problem with overpopulation either.

Just look at the helicopter thread on here to see how many mumsnetters eagerly lap up the conspiracy theories

Just because someone thinks differently to you doesn’t make them “mad.”

I have a friend too who keeps posting things and trying to prove to me that it’s a false pandemic that the hospitals are all empty because it’s a huge cover up , posting #filmyourhospital and then saying she doesn’t know what to believe that it might be caused by 5g masts and so on . I’ve put across my view and she’s told me that I need to ‘ open my eyes ‘ !!

Maybe ' mad' is a bit harsh.
I kept getting told to open my eyes too.

Well, whoever you want to believe, the NHS are actually urging people to go to hospital if needed, such is the terror.

It would be easy to explain chest pain as stress at the moment so perhaps that factors in to people being too scared to go to A&E.

I think conspiracy theorists like to think they know something the rest of us don’t. Makes them feel superior.

I do believe some theories. The one about Elizabeth1 being a man I think could be true.

LOL Rosebud - that’s the most ridiculous one I’ve heard so far. The history of our nation was shaped precisely because she was NOT a son for Henry VIII.
