Should I let them of overpayment or just wait ?

Hi,
so I will try to be as quick as possible ,
I had been offered a position at a masive Company back in January, I have completeted the training which I was supposed to get paid of last Friday.
I have accepted the offer back in January and was meant to start working hovever they have ditched me out, kept me waiting then closed the company due to the Coronavirus leaving me jobless and without chance to earn elsewhere because I kept waiting for 2 months for them to offer me hours where they didnt because they didnt know what is coming.

as I mentioned above, I was meant to get paid for the training last Friday, only around £140 ... I didnt , so I have emailed them to explain my dissapointment that 1st- They forgot , 2nd because of the lack of work and hours I wasnt actually earning anything and now I cant even do anything about it because nothing becomes eligibe for me regards Coronavirus etc.

The accountant then replied with apologies and assured that the training money will be pain in an "advance pay" and then the remaining next pay day.
I was happy to hear that however I didnt know what she meant by "remaining" because as I said, it was only supposed to be £140.
I have checked my bank account today only to find out that they have paid me over 4 times more than they supposed to.
I am so confused whether I should contact them as soon as possible or should I just expect to wait for them to take it back from my account ?
Whatever goes onto my account I then move to my husbands one because thats where all ourbills are going from etc.
I dont know if They cant take stuff back ? should I leave it out there for them to pick on it or should I call and say that there have been an overpayment ?

I will just add here that I have no intention to go back to work there after they reopen and because of the lack of money I have just taken on a cleaning position somewhere to help us with the bills, mortgage etc

I'd honestly just call them up and ask then to explain the payment amount and ask for a breakdown as what you were expecting and what you have receive largely differ.

I'd set the extra aside for now until it clear this up.

You need to ask them for clarification and a payslip. If you've been overpaid you will have to pay it back.

Nonsense.

To prove theft, there has to be intent. If it is a mistake, it can easily be cleared up, and paid back to the sender.

OP, just contact the company and ask them to clarify the payment. Are you on the payroll?

Ask them for emailed summary of payment.
Leave it in your account so you can pay it back if you need too.
If they have overpaid then you will have to pay it back.

Have they paid you a notice period as you would've been in contract with them? Usually it's around a week for less than 12wks service

Hi, I wonder if they have paid you for your training and then from when you should have started your job. Could they have taken you on as agreed even though you haven't actually been able/required to do any work? Ask them if you are now an employee of theirs.

@winter2020 Yes , I am still their employee, I had an access to the company's benefits, Iam on payroll and have an access to company's app .
They did say to me that they will contact me if they reopen to provide hours and etc...

They might have paid you off in lieu of notice to include any holiday pay due etc

Sounds like it's your salary then? Ask for a payslip.

Of course you need to talk to them about it. I was overpaid by £900 last year (only realised once I got belated access to payslips) so I feel your pain! But you definitely don’t want to wait for them to notice.
