Royal Mail Post - should I be using?

I've noticed my post is now taking up to a week to arrive so I guess Royal Mail is quite badly affected by staff shortages and other corona related issues.

What I really wanted to ask was should I still be buying or selling non essential items that are sent by Royal Mail?

Does anyone have any information on how Royal Mail staff are feeling about delivering post at this time? Do they not want to be delivering (except essentials) or do they want more? (assuming business is way down?)

I still seem to be getting junk mail, so they're coming to my door anyway - I guess they have contracts with these firms they have to fulfil.

My postman loves his job. I have two. We have an older guy. Who had been working. He says he loves it because he gets to chat on his round. From a distance. Otherwise he's on his own.

The other guy is deaf and almost blind young guy. I literally have no idea. But he does the round on his own. He's an amazing guy!!!! I don't know how he knows he rung the doorbell. Or how he knows we're coming g to the door (I live in a house with 4 floors. So if the bell goes when you're at the top. Most people walk away by the time you get to the door) but he never does! He's always waiting there with a smile. I haven't seen him much. But I would assume he's in the vulnerable category. Shame. He's such a nice man.

But from my postman. He's loving working.

I asked our postman as wondered the same, he says he’s happy with the overtime he’s getting.

They probably all feel differently depending on their individual circumstances and thoughts.

The service is available though so use it if you want to. My nana posted me a cheque to buy the kids something for Easter on Thursday afternoon and it arrived Friday around noon which is my usual delivery time.

Only speaking for my postie, he's always cheery if he has to knock to let me know he's leaving a parcel. I'd imagine some are happy some are not, the same as any workforce but if I needed to post something I would. A universal postal service is important for the country imo and I wouldn't want to see it as a casualty of corona

I stopped selling on eBay as I didn’t want to put myself at any extra risk, nor the post office staff or anyone else in the delivery chain. Nothing I sell is essential, just items I no longer want. I may just bin things instead now.

delighted to be employed I imagine, if they have any sense.

I'm definitely not going to the post office, I have a post box within 30 seconds of my front door, so I can just pop items in as I run past during my daily exercise.

Ours is as happy as usual. My view is that we should be using whatever services that are still available to use.

There’s a massive recession coming. Many people are happily locked down at home so are not really feeling the effects yet.

The government have been quite clear since the outset that any business that can continue to trade, including online, should do so.

Our local Post Office seems to be struggling with staff shortages - they have reduced their opening times and sometimes just can't open at all. Everyone is very supportive of them and accepting it's a casualty of the times. I took some post from the postie into the pharmacy the other day as I was in the queue and didn't want him to have to slow down Grin

I'd really like to know if the stay home it's non essential we must all be SAFE crowd are willing to take responsibility for the disaster that's coming. They won't be, they'll be whining about the government - moaning their UC isn't enough, the schools are all crap & they can't get treatment for serious illness let alone a GP appointment or screening services.

I think for a lot of them cowering at home, scared of the post, delighted to receive £90 a week from the state & 'reporting' their neighbours for some imaginary breech of an imaginary law is great because they get to they cosplay Netflix Dystopia.

Well I am enjoying having picnics in the garden at lunchtime in this fine weather Laniakea but I'd far rather everyone was back at work and my son was in school.

I presume you think lockdown is nonsense and is outweighed by the effect to the economy. The future may prove you right but at the moment I'm thinking of frontline key-workers and respecting their wishes.

By "cowering at home" do you mean "complying with the rules of lockdown and doing exactly what they've been asked to do to reduce the spread of the virus"?
