Regular childcare would be from a shielded person?

I'm wondering how on earth I'm going to go back to work when lockdown ends, normally my childcare would be my mum, who is still very sprightly, but has underlying health conditions and lives with my dad, who shouldn't be exposed to the virus.
Assuming lockdown will end and we'll all be expected back at work before the shielded group are back in circulation, I guess I need to make other plans.
Anyone else in the same situation, what are you doing?

How old is your son/ daughter ? You may need to look into local childminders / nursery’s to see if they have any spaces available for when you need care to start. End of July / August is when a lot of spaces become available due to the older kids leaving before starting school. If it’s a before/ after school placed needed I would move fast with first school allocation places due this month, people book these places as soon as they know the school they got in to

There maybe numerous options available depending on your circumstances? My CC is part nursery part grandparents. I'd have to increase nursery and / or change my work pattern to a more flexible pattern in the interim

Yes we are going to have to use an after school club. My Mum will not be happy if she can’t see them for 18mnths-2years if we have to wait for a vaccine.

We currently use a mixture of grandparents and after school club (which we spent long enough on a waiting list for 1 day a week) for the older one and have a toddler who doesn't have any other care.

I've always had the impression nurseries/childminders need a fair bit of notice and I expect there will be quite a few other people also looking for alternative care. As we don't know when lockdown will end, or what the situation will be for the shielded group, it's hard to make any definite plans.

I'm just a bit nervous that as soon as schools reopen, workplaces will expect parents 100% back to normal, but it's not going to be that simple.
