I am pretty certain I have had it. Won’t go into detail but my story is on all the lungs threads. I am A positive. Took almost 4 weeks from first symptom to almost no symptoms.

I’m A+ I think. What’s the link to cv?

I'm A+, why are you asking?

Report

I'm A+
My doctor said my symptoms were coronavirus.
I recovered in just over 2 weeks and I would say the illness was moderate.

Xtinalee · 14/04/2020 22:15

I read A+ blood group is more susceptible of getting severely ill and I’m very scared as when I catch viruses they make me bed bound.

I’m A+. Not entirely sure I’ve had it as no test but as a household we’ve all had high temperatures/coughs/tight chests. If it was it, I had it mildly. DH had a more severe case, think he’s O+

I’m worried about this too but the research hasn’t been peer reviewed and some scientists think the additional risk is likely to be small.

Hard not to worry about it but there’s absolutely nothing we can do about our blood group so I’m trying not to dwell on it (easier said than done I know!)

What about AB+? Is that bad too?

Report

My DH is A-. What we suspect was Corona left him with pneumonia. He went from a typical fit and healthy 40 year old to bed bound for over a week. He's fully recovered now but taking it slowly.

I'm B+ and our three kids are a combination of AB+ and B -. We had fevers, sore throats and dry coughs that lasted a few days.

It may well be correlation rather than causation, OP. If the A+ blood group is more common in certain populations that are also more susceptible to coronavirus because of increased susceptibility to risk factors, for example.

Joans3rddaughter · 14/04/2020 22:21

Approx 45% of population in UK are Blood Group A Rhesus positive. So statistically some people with this blood group will have had Covid-19 and recovered.

Also if you can add whether you usually get illnesses/bugs too ..

I'm A+. I'm on week 5 and still have symptoms. I caught it from someone who tested positive and my GP thinks it is corona.
It was bad enough to be bed bound for about a week (cough, breathing problems, pains, headache) but after that it was mainly a cough and exhaustion for two more weeks. I now just have a fairly debilitating cough. My GP told me today that the cough could last another 2-3 weeks.
I've had it the worst in my household but I didn't need hospital at any point.

Does it not just say a higher chance of contracting covid 19. I dont think it was said they were at more risk of being seriously ill with it

Report
Xtinalee · 14/04/2020 22:23

Yes I’m very anxious so trying to research as much as possible. I know it won’t help but I’m not leaving the house because I’m scared of catching it as I seem to catch all the bugs.

Bugger. Yes. This thread just made me check - I'd seen it in the press a few days ago and thought it was my blood group. I've just had to hunt out my old maternity notes to confirm.

Will this level of worry make anything better though? Having this ‘knowledge’ (which isn’t knowledge, it’s anecdotes) isn’t going to mean your experience is going to be any better or any worse.

It said you were at more risk of being hospitalised with it. But the methods used are suspect and there is little evidence to suggest it's anything more than a coincidence.

A+, female, Early 30s, generally fit and well, usual colds etc. Might have had it but obviously cant be sure, did have contact with a confirmed case. It was incredibly mild, no where near as bad as flu or even a cold for me. I'd not heard anything about blood type until now, there are loads of us A+ out there so please dont worry Flowers

I'm A+ and I believe I've had it. I've been ill for three weeks and think I am okay now.

I have just Googled and found stories about one study done in Wuham. It wasn't a peer reviewed study, and all the stories are from 3 or more weeks ago, so it would appear either no further studies have been done or they have been but haven't shown a higher risk for people with A+ blood.

Try not to worry OP, there are sorts of other risk factors involved. Keep up with meticulous handwashing and rigorous social distancing to try to avoid catching it, and to flatten the curve so the NHS has capacity to treat everyone. And remember, most people who get it will not have it seriously enough to have to be admitted to hospital.
