Neighbour abusing vulnerable delivery slots - what to do?

Doeeys · 14/04/2020 12:26

Need advice on what I should do...since the lockdown began, my neighbour receives on average 3-4 large online deliveries from Asda, Sainsbury's and Tesco, this usually occur on consecutive day's - this week she has had them Sunday (Sainsbury's), Monday (Tesco) and today (Asda). She is in her mid 40s and has asthma and has been classed vulnerable, however she often goes out during the week to do top up shops as I see her unloading shopping from her car. She has also contacted the local volunteer group to also get 3 large 6pints of milk when she only has herself and one 7yr old. What is concerning me is that there are really vulnerable and elderly people out there that can't even get one delivery slot and she has had 10plus deliveries since the lockdown and it appears she is abusing the system. I have a small 6mth old baby and I am still going out as I know there are people out there that are truly vulnerable and need these extra priority services. What are your views on this and what would you do?

That's shit but you can't control what other people so I'd do.... nothing 🤷‍♀️

How do you know she is not shopping for other people?

I don’t think there’s anything you can do.

And it may not be as it appears? Could be that she getting things for others or some i other unknown factor.

I'm not sure there is anything you can do, unfortunately. There'll always be a few selfish idiots who think they're so clever to be working the system.
How much can her and one child be eating?? Perhaps she'll run out of money soon...

I couldn't in all honestly get worked up about this. It smacks of too much time on your hands.

With the greatest respect, concentrate on you and your DD. You have no idea what she’s doing. I get three click and collects a week. I’m shopping for me and three other households. Maybe she’s doing the same.

She could be shopping for other people. Hate all the snitching that’s going on. It’s like being back at school

Is she really fat? What is she doing with it all?

Are you sure she’s not getting food for other people?
That sounds like an excessive amount of shopping for one adult and one 7 yr old.

What is she doing with it? How could one adult and one child be eating that amount? I am getting 1 delivery every week to 10 days for 2 adults and it is plenty. She must be shopping for someone else or she has several people held hostage that she needs to feed.

It must be costing her a fortune.

Do you really think one adult and a 10 YO are receiving several large deliveries from multiple supermarkets each week plus top ups all for herself? If she was, you'd be able to see all the food piling up at the windows by now.

Maybe when she goes out in her car, she's taking this food to vulnerable family and friends, who can't get out? Many people are getting shopping for multiple households.

100% ignore. You have literally no idea what is going on or who she is shopping for/what she is buying. It's nothing to do with you!!

Sorry but I can’t believe that she could Go through that much shopping just her and a 7 yr old so there’s more to this

I would probably take up a hobby that keeps me away from the window tbh.

If she is getting all that shopping delivered it's clearly not just for her and a 7 year old. She may well be volunteering for those even more vulnerable than she is or getting shopping for family.

Regardless, it's really nothing to do with you, where would you report her, and how would it improve your life at all if you did?

The best thing you can do is concentrate on your household

Watching what others are doing isn’t going to help your state of mind in this situation and just wind you up

Please stop watching her. I find this behaviour so odd.

You can't do anything.
If she's having three big deliveries a week then she must be hoarding or sharing. Perhaps she has passes for all three supermarkets and can get deliveries so she's getting them and taking the food to other people who can't get deliveries?

What do you want to do ? If you want to "tell"on her then do that but honestly if you do then the only person that it will look bad on is you.

I had 2 Tesco’s shops last week, shoot me. Wonder if my neighbours are thinking of how to report me 🤔 I can’t get enough items under the 80 items policy and Tesco’s emailed me to say I could have a priority slot for Easter Sunday as my dd is on the extremely vulnerable list but none of my neighbours would know that, so I took the slot as I didn’t manage to fit Easter eggs in my last one. Tesco’s were nice enough to give us 2 for free, I can’t get out because I can’t leave dd at home alone.

As I've been noticing it more and more and we are into week 3 of this, I've noticed that she isn't doing shopping for other households as she's always unloading into her house rather than taking supplies to other households. It makes me sad that at a time like this people should be considering those that are really in need. I guess some people are just extremely selfish. I live in a place where there are many elderly residents and many of them are really struggling, the focus should be in these people rather than taking all the priority and charitable help away from them.

I honestly don't know how people notice this stuff. I never know when my neighbours get shopping because 1. it's none of my business and 2. I'm not constantly sticking my head out the window and spying on people.

I think you need a new hobby

The large shops are split from huge items like water and toilet rolls etc. I've noticed the deliveries as my little one is usually woken up from naps by the noise of the deliveries and the crates. It's possible she is stockpiling.

It sounds like you are spending a large amount of time at the window and this really isn’t healthy for you

It makes me sad that people are making judgements on others without knowing the full facts.
