Is MIL being U or AIBU? 18th birthday in the garden

DH and I are isolating with our two kids 3 and 10 weeks. It’s hard works with no nursery and no support and I feel very low and stressed but it is what it is. We haven’t seen family, DH WFH and doing as little shopping as possible.

MIL on FaceTime told us that for DHs cousins 18th they had a party in her garden where she, her sister and 2 sons (18 and 21) and DH grandparents age late 70s all gave presents and caught up. She claims as they are were outside and stayed 2m apart it’s fine.

DH told her she’s being stupid and she shouldn’t do it again but she’s acting like we are being OTT. I found is infuriating as I’d love to see family or friends in real life even 2m away as I’m struggling so much but staying at home as that’s the right thing.

I’m right, right? I want to show her this ~unless it turns out no one agrees~ so she realises!

Yes, you're right. Gatherings from different households are banned, whether they're outside or not.

Of course you are right

Stay at home
Do not meet friends or family

I don’t understand how it could be made any clearer to people who can’t seem to stick to the rules. Army & tanks maybe?

You cannot argue with stupid.

But you can control how you react to it.

So stupid of them. You’d think between all of them, one person would say that it wasn’t a good idea? They are ALL so clueless?
