Covid

Should I keep away from DD/DH? I have symptoms:(

I woke up this morning with body aches throughout and high temp (38.5).

We have all been at home since lockdown. Shall ask DH to set up an air bed in the spare room?

Shall I stay in my own room for the next 7 days and stay away from pets and family?

What have others done?

If you can stay away from them I would.

Yes sleep in different room and stay 2 metres away. Get them to leave meals at your door. Lots of advice on BBC/NHS website.
Take care and hope you feel better soon.

Absolutely.
I was ill for 5 days and did not have any contact with my family for 7 days.

When I did eat DH left meals at the door.

I'm fairly sure I had tonsillitis - a fever, extremely sore throat/glands.

That included my 2 cats btw!

@middleager

I have the same symptoms (felt like a combination of tonsillitis, flu and a kidney infection all at once) and swabbed positive for Covid. So don't discount it.

Yes, stay away. If you have to share a bathroom keep your own towels in our bedroom. The rest of your family also now needs to self-isolate at home for 14 days.

If you do start feeling really bad get your dh to keep an eye on you and call 111 if you need to.

Thank you, fingers crossed it's not Covid

DD can FaceTime you, draw pictures or write letters to slide under the door. It’s worth it, if you can, although I know most kids are ok but to try and protect DH so you have one well parent. Feel better soon x

Yes I would try to keep away from the family if possible, even if they do catch it from you, it may be better to try to reduce their dose of the virus.

I'm in isolation at the moment. My dc come to the door and talk to me. No need for them not to see you. Dh brings me food and drinks. Dd has found it hard, but she's got used to (day 5 now).

Why would you stay away from pets? The cats and dog have been coming in to see me.

It’s best to keep distance but tbh they may have already caught it from you, and if so, you should all self isolate for 14 days

Yes stay away. Have your own toilet/bathroom too if you can. The government advice has lots of details on this e.g have your own separate towel. I followed the advice as best as I could because we have young children and really wanted to avoid both parents being ill at the same time. DH moved into the spare bed. I have recovered and my husband seems fine.

Oh and if it's any consolation my children seemed to forget about me pretty quickly Grin

My 10yr old, one day seemed to forget about me until about 4pm, when he stuck his head round door and grunted at me. Younger dd is finding it harder.

Just make sure they are at a distance, no need to seal yourself inside the room.

I'm going to try and stay away from my cat. I have a young kitten who had an upper respiratory tract infects when I got him so I don't want him to get poorly.

She will be fine, she is a worrier. I have played it right down though to her and told her it is just a precaution.

DH has set up an air bed in the lounge.

I can't keep my own bathroom but we have plenty of spray dettol, bleach etc. Will keep my own towels.

@Teddypops I think it’s a good idea for DH to sleep separately, it can’t be good to be breathing it in all night. My DH is doing the same. However I’m also breastfeeding my 4Mth old and he’s in the bedroom with me and I can’t do a lot about that. Apart from DH sleeping separately, we’ve been carrying on as normal in terms of contact and fingers and toes crossed the others seem fine at the moment. I’m on day 6 now from when my symptoms started. My GP friends said by the time you’ve got symptoms you probably would have been infectious for a little time anyway. Any precautions you can take are all for the better and might be very helpful but don’t worry or stress yourself out unduly. Get well soon xx

The advice for self isolation is only to separate if you live with a vulnerable person www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/self-isolation-advice/ it did used to be all the time but now only if you live with certain people, of course it is up to you what you do so you can totally isolate if you prefer to x

Thanks, typically my temp has come right down today (37.5) but I still have head and body aches.

@Teddypops my fever didn’t last long either. I still think I have CV. All of my symptoms are very on and off - middle of the night the absolute worst for pounding headache and sore throat, lethargy on and off through the day. I know a few who had only a short lived fever so you likely do have CV. Get well soon xx

@Teddypops I’ve found paracetomol to be pretty effective except for the cough. I just have sips of water when that comes on. I’m taking a high dose of D3 anyway and a breastfeeding multivitamin anyway which I think has a low level of vit c in it, I haven’t bothered to take anything else. Medicine wise I’m scared to take anything other than paracetamol after the uncertainty around ibuprofen - I see now the NHS recommend it isn’t taken.
