Just that really. I'm a smokers of over 30 years. Been in hospital this weekend and worried sick I will have caught it and will now die

Yes of course. However it is difficult because it's my crutch. I suffer with severe anxiety. I don't have any other vices

I used to work in addictions. Times of high stress are not times to quit. And I'm doubtful that giving up now would really have an effect if someone got sick now.

Maybe time to plan to give up in the future, when the world's less pandemiccy.

I take lots of medication for it.

I was taken by ambulance on Friday morning as I had a seizure. I've never had one before. They discovered I am severely anemic so gave me a blood transfusion. I will have caught it and I have special needs children

Hospitals are carefully keeping covid-like and non Covid-like patients apart. I'm sure you will be ok from the pov of catching this now but you do need to stop smoking immediately. No excuses. You must stop.

Hi OP sorry to hear that you are unwell at the moment.

I am a longer term smoker in 40s and I’m current petrified of catching the virus. Struggling at the moment as DS just came out of his room after suffering symptoms so I’m just waiting.

It hasn’t helped reading threads with people saying over and over about smokers.

One thing to remember is that high risk doesn’t mean it’s inevitable. There was the story recently of the BBC news reader who has stage 4 cancer and only suffered mild symptoms.

One other point I’ve been thinking about is that alcohol use is not discussed much. I’m not a drinker so apart from lungs everything else should be ok? Drinkers cause organ damage too and aren’t liver and kidneys the things that tend to pack up when ventilated? Lungs get the help to recover.

One of the problems with smoking is that it impacts on cardiovascular health and the kidneys in particular are very much affected by cardiovascular disease. Drinking to excess is really bad for you, so is smoking, so is being obese. These are all things we need to change.

Thank you. I'm not obese, I no longer drink at all but I am sedentry due to disability. Worried sick

Op, smoking is an odd one, they have no conclusive evidence, but on one hand they think smokers are less likely to catch it and they don’t know why, but if they do it can be worse, depending on underlying health.

The stats are not showing a higher proportion of smokers dying, yes it is a risk, but not one worth worrying yourself sick over, in addition being in hospital is not some form of guarantee you’ll get it. If it was every single person who works in a hospital or visits one would have it. They don’t.
