Going back to work!

My husband has decided to go back to work today.
And is taking his 17 year old son to help.
My husband owns a mobile valeting company and after 3 weeks off he has decided to start advertising and go back to work today.

We have enough money to last us through this Crisis.

My problem is that I have ocd and asthma. My biggest fear is catching covid19 and it killing me.
He knows how I feel as I've been terrified and in tears a lot.

I can't talk to him about it, as he just gets stroppy and refuses to speak to me. It's like living with a stranger.

You can work outside the home if the nature of the work means you cannot do otherwise, as long as social distance is maintained. Is it car valeting? So largely outside and using cleaning equipment?

I'm not sure who is and who isn't allowed to work.
I myself would say the same. Only key workers are ok to go to work.

Yes he is allowed to work as he can't work from home. Interestingly I had an email from my hairdressers saying they're reopening next week. So I think a few businesses will do this.

He can work providing he can follow social distancing - there has not been a requirement to be a key worker to keep working in the UK.

In the UK it isn't only key workers that are allowed to work. My understanding is that anyone who can't work from home is allowed to work but must ensure they comply with social distancing measures. However, I don't think the OP's husband's type of business is appropriate to continue with in the current circumstances.

I would be surprised if many people would want their vehicles valeted. Someone else touching the inside of your vehicle and breathing, maybe coughing in it? Not for me, thanks.

I think that might be wishful thinking, haven’t they been closed by the government? I doubt they will be opening any time soon. Also how do you socially distance when cutting hair?

It's not just key workers who are allowed to work, as long as he is practising social distancing he can work. I understand why you are worried though.

He can work. He is not a keyworker but anyone who can work safely should because after all this is over we need an economy.

Dh is a builder. The sites have remained open and although he took a couple of weeks off, he is going back tomorrow now the sites have established social distancing and safe working practices.

This won't be over in a few weeks. Everyone needs to do their bit and that includes keeping the economy ticking over. The only restrictions on working was that you should work from home if possible.

I see where you're coming from but this isn't going away over night. You would have to wait for a vaccine to be sure you're safe.

Who knows when one will be developed and then manufactured and administered to everyone. Can you all stay home for the duration of that? If so he needs to accept he can't go out for the rest of the year.

I think a lot of self employed people will start to go back to work by the end of May, plumbers, electricians, building site contractors, hairdressers, barbers, car wash places, take aways will start to open up again, i think mcdonalds, kfc etc will open.
I think once one starts up others will follow. The country wont stay on ahut down until a vaccine is found.

People will have to start going back to work soon, else if you keep everyone locked up like a lot of people on here want until its totally eradicated 100% from the entire world, then there wont be any jobs or economy to go back to and the result of that will be far worse.

The Government wont keep paying everyone forever and there's already been reports that more companies have applied for money than expected. Don't think this furlough scheme will be extended as its already unaffordable.
