Tesco queue at midnight?

depressedindoors · 11/04/2020 00:23

Been logged in since 23:45. Got a slot fine last time but I've been stuck on the queue page for 45 mins. How long does it take on average to get through?

Also, are you allowed to take public transport to get to a supermarket?

@depressedindoors
I take public transport to the supermarket. I used to get the bus back but sticking to the tube now, which is totally empty for the 2 stops I'm on it for.

QM2QEQV Well done! I'll be trying again tomorrow, fingers crossed.

I have done this a few times. A couple of times I've been lucky and got a slot but mostly I queue and wait and when I eventually get on there is nothing left.

@jay55 I don't live in a tube area unfortunately so can only get bus. Only prob is that I have bad OCD and am prone to panic attacks.

Weirdly the last time I managed to get a slot I didn't get on until 12.20 and there were plenty of slots. I was really surprised.
The next day my friend was complaining that she had queued and got on at 12.07 but there was nothing Confused

I just don't think this whole supermarket thing is working at the moment.
I finished work at 1915 on Thursday and the supermarkets were horrible .
Tesco massive queue but shop virtually empty. Lidl absolutely nothing on the shelves. Aldi closed early because they had to many customers . Back to Tesco to queue.
The lack of common sense at the moment is unbelievable

Yellow, I know you might not want to say, but I’m wondering where you are.

I was wondering now the panic buying is over if they shouldn’t return to 24hr? Surely this would help with the queues?

I was thinking the shops may have been busier over the last couple of days as it’s Easter weekend.

@depressedindoors Yes I did get a slot after queueing.

I just got a slot - amazed - started buying stuff and went to check out and it threw me back onto selecting my delivery slot, which had predictably gone. Bugger

I logged on my phone then on my laptop after my laptop connected first and i got a slot my phone connected 5 mins later with no spots left so i wonder if it works better on the website than the app.

thought you meant a physical queue at midnight Grin

I went to Tesco (a big one, not the local tiny one) today - OKish queue outside, reasonable stock, only a few of things I needed out of stock (first world problems, cinnamon, ginger beer and shaved parmesan).
No trolleys - and I wasn't going to trundle back to the car park to collect one and end up further back in the queue.
The checkout queue snaked halfway around the store.
I did feel that a few less people waving at arrows on the floor, redeployed to checkouts and shifting trolleys from the carpark to the store would be more effective.

No luck for me. I eventually got on at 12.35 but nothing left. I will try on the laptop tomorrow night

I'm really not keen to go into the shops but if I have too, I'm aiming to go back to my normal routine of going really late just before they shut.

There’s still the viral exposure to think about. Also, they need time to restock without anybody in the store. If anything, I think this may lead some previously 24 hour stores to trim their hours back to 10:00pm closings after the pandemic is over. Having a clear time for stocking to happen is likely more efficient in the long run for stores, especially if they’re on skeleton crew.
