This isnt the officers fault. This has to come down to training. Listen to what police leadership is saying on the news regarding checking trollies and removing any non essentials (even when people are buying them alongside their essentials) etc. When you look at the state of the leadership, you csnt blame the officers. They must be getting told even more ridiculous things than their bosses are saying on TV.

I don't know if I would say it isn't the officers fault. There's a lot of people who seem to think we should be living in self imposed misery rationing out the plain pasta and tap water.

Whilst it is a truly awful situation there's no reason you can't buy non essentials with your shop, the idea is to minimise visits so when in doubt buy more wine :) Surely we should all be trying to make the best of it. I think this'll encourage people to follow the rules for longer. Playing in the garden with the kids in a good normal thing to do.

Given this is South Yorkshire Police, I’m not sure what I think of any of them.

I do think the government need to clarify everything, urgently, to the police. But increasingly I think the government made a balls up of this. And now they’ve painted themselves into a corner.

I still wonder if Priti Patel is quiet because she’s not happy about it either.

@DDIJ There are similar gardens in some streets where i live Where the prefab houses which are still lived in were built after the Second World War..........they have large/long gardens.

What's this about removing non-essentials?!

I have a family of five, I did a big shop on Monday and got loads of 'non-essentials' - but if no one buys the easter eggs and the fancy coffee then what happens to it? I bought a couple of packs of yoghurts - not essential, but also perishable. They'd be ruined in a not very long time, surely? I didn't overbuy by the way, but I did spend nearly £150 which is about a two week shop.

Sorry but it makes no difference whether the garden is or isn't 2 metres from the street. Its private property and is not covered at all in the legislation.

DDIJ - in a small block of flats, we can’t maintain 2 metres in stairs, lift or corridor. Elderly residents are scared the lifts will be shut. Some common sense has to apply even with social distancing.
