Anyone know about travel insurance?

My mother kindly booked 2 cottages for a family holiday for the 10 of us this Easter. This is a rare get together and a huge gift to all the kids/grandkids.
The owner told my Mum that she would not refund the payment and that Mum should claim on her travel insurance.
Mum has claimed, but her insurers will only pay out 20% of the claim for the two that were on the travel insurance (minus the excess).
So Mum is now down £1300.
Does anyone know if I'd be able to claim on my travel insurance? Even though my name is not on the booking?

What was the travel insurers reason for only refunding 20%?

Sounds like the insurers are saying only 2 people are covered on the insurance so they will only pay out for those 2. Who made the holiday payments?

If she paid on her credit card she could raise a dispute and get the money back that way.

You need to speak to your travel insurers, not mn.

Just saw this article. Is the reason for cancellation because it’s so near the dates of travel?

Surely the insurers should refund per booking cost, not per person?

You need to speak to your travel insurers to see if they will cover the booking.

They said since the property slept 10 people, they would only cover the two people who were insured. It didn't matter that Mum had paid for it all.

I was on hold to my travel insurance for over an hour before I had to come off to do some work. I just wondered if anyone here would know if I could claim before attempting to call again.

Mum paid by bank transfer. She's used the cottages before and thought it was safe to do so.

My travel insurer wanted copies of booking invoices and cancellation invoices or communications. Just email and ask them?
