I'm sorry if this has been covered but I've not seen anything....where the hell is Chris Whitty? Is he ok? Do we know anything about his condition?

After obsessively watching everything for weeks I've forced myself to take a break for my own sanity. Did a quick google search there and couldn't see anything. I really hope he's ok.

I think he’s just taken a step back. He’s a human being and people were being incredibly cruel and bullying towards him. Wouldn’t be surprised if he stays behind the scenes in future.

@Petiolaris I thought the same that he might not want a forward facing role.

I haven't seen bullying is this on Twitter?

Oh I LOVE him!

What were people saying?

Rosehip10 · 06/04/2020 06:06

Laughing about his appearance etc. Just immature and cruel. Just looks like a normal bloke in his early 50s and since when do we give a shit anyway if doctors look like an er cast........

He was on Twitter few days ago from self isolation.
I wish we knew how he was now, I am getting rather worried too.

Sorry caps fail. Yep as in who gives a shit what a doctor looks like if you are ill or need their expertise. It's not a bloody tv show.

I think his offical Twitter account will be handled by the doh comms civil servants.

If he's tweeted from his named account that would probably require his approval unless he has delegated that to a deputy. It won't require him to actually log in, write the tweet, etc. I like him and really hope he's ok.

It won't be him tweeting, it will be a dedicated comms expert given permission to do so.

I like him a lot too. So down to earth and believable. Has the ad featuring him been removed from Tv? I saw an ad yesterday, which appeared to be an updated version of the stay at home, save lives. He’s nowhere to be seen.

He seems a sweet, incredibly intelligent and trustworthy guy. I hope he's ok.

I very much "enjoyed" (sorry, shit use of the word) watching him on the briefings. For a hugely intelligent man he explains things in such an accessible way without ever coming across as patronising. I hope he gets well soon.

I really hope people arnt picking on him. He deserves a knighthood for the guidance he has given to our government. The way he words things and explains the science is easy to understand yet not patronising. His explanations have been bloody brilliant. I really hope he is OK.

I was going to comment but Elephant struck the nail on the head.

Brilliant man, I hope he is ok.

I wasn’t aware of this.

FFS what is wrong with people? Sad

There was a really good documentary on Radio 4 about him. What a brilliant, inspirational & genuinely kind and compassionate man, and that’s before you even take into account his intelligence, leadership and how humble he is. If anyone is in a position to be arrogant it’s him, but it just isn’t in his character.

Not sure why there is this mocking from idiots. I have worked in the civil servant and at a teaching hospital in the past and he looks like plenty of the Doctors/senior officials in their 50s - i.e just a normal middle aged bloke, maybe a bit of an academic look (as in presentable but not especially worried about fashion). Would anyone really comment if they saw him in supermarket/pub/tube.

It's weird how appearance obsessed some people are. Too much TV?
I really appreciated his briefings and expertise. I felt like if i was going to trust anyone in this pandemic, it would be him.

Report
LoveIsLovely · 06/04/2020 07:24

What on earth do people find to mock about him? He looks like 90% of other middle aged white blokes.

I haven't seen any, not on twitter or whatever.

Either way, maybe it doesn't bother him that much? I know that as I get older, I'm not really bothered by what people say about how I look or whatever. Comments that would have crushed me in my 20s are totally meaningless now.

He's said to be a very private person. For that reason he may not want his health situation made public. He's sick and entitled to privacy.

I hope he is ok and we see him again soon. He's a reassuring presence.
