Covid

Lovely dad passed away in hospital

I am heartbroken. My 74 year old father was taken into hospital two days ago suffering with Covid 19. He passed away last night with only a nurse by his bedside. My mum is ill with symptoms at home. I am beyond heartbroken. I don’t even know if we will be allowed a funeral. I cannot take it in. It doesn’t seem real.

I’m so sorry for your loss and in such difficult circumstances Flowers

Funerals for COVID victims do seem to be going ahead albeit with a limit on mourner numbers and social distance measures enforced. I hope you are able to get that organised.

I am so sorry. This is my great fear for my parents but I listened to the BBC’s Coronavirus newscast podcast the other day and they were talking to a palliative care specialist about the reality of this and I found it very reassuring - I hope it helps you - podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-coronavirus-newscast/id1234185718?i=1000470240568

@IDidNotSignUpForThis so sorry for your loss. Would it help to share a special memory or funny moment you shared together? 💐.
I know it is not the same but could you consider the possibility of holding a memorial service in a special location to your dad or if he is to be buried, a memorial service at his graveside once restrictions are lifted?
I know we don’t know each other in real life but myself and I’m sure others are here to support you at this time of unfathomable grief.

So sorry for your loss Flowers

You won’t be allowed a normal funeral until all this is over, but you can have either a cremation ceremony or a burial with immediate family present and social distancing measures in place.

I am so very sorry for your loss Thanks I'm a healthcare professional working on covid wards right now and I promise we are doing our very best to make patients comfortable and be with them if they need us for anything and especially especially if we think they're nearing the end. Thinking of you and your family today.

Agreed if you'd like to tell us the good things you want to remember, then you are focusing on them for a little while.

I hope your mum is ok too

This is the most worrying aspect I’ve f the whole thing.
However, you loved your dad all his life. He knew that. I am sure there were thousands of ways you showed that. Hold those moments.
Very hard days ahead without the support of friends to get through.
