I'm doing some shopping for a vulnerable family member and we see each other across their front garden. Others have been doing similar deliveries on our street so there's been quite a few conversations down drives or out of upstairs windows

No one is to have any visitors in their home, or visit anyone else’s home. The 2m distance is how far you need to stay away from other when you’re in shops or walking

The two metre rule is for when you're doing something essential like working in the same environment or shopping at the same time. Visiting family isn't essential and not worth the risk.

I drop off food to my elderly DM, but leave it at the front door and then step back to the other side of the road and briefly talk to her, but that is as far as visiting goes. But she needs me to shop for her and she lives between me and the supermarket, so not making a special journey to see her.

I’m going to see my Mum tomorrow but she’s one of the shielded people & is refusing local help. So, I’m going to drop round food for her, clean the kitchen whilst she stays in the garden & then come home. I’ve also arranged for a couple of local volunteers to say hello when I’m there too & arrange for them a way to pay for the shopping.

I think it's ok to chat from the driveway if the person is vulnerable and you're dropping off shopping/essentials but personally I would go further than 2m. Otherwise no.
