If anyone has made one already can you please link the pattern and say whether it's comfortable to wear. There are now lots of patterns available online and it'd be helpful to get reviews of the different patterns.

This article discusses fabric types:

I've made some. I followed the Patrick Grant pattern from BigCommunitySew.co.uk. There are lots on there to suit all abilities. I've been out once whilst wearing it, it wasn't too bad but I don't think any are particularly comfortable.

Made a load for family so they have a couple each. It started out just making for us. Then family members got wind of it. And then I didn't want others to miss out and asked for them.
It was a fucking production line . But I did it. They have all been told to do what they want with them and have no obligation to use.

I'm making some for us. I'm using the simple pattern from Patrick Grant's website. I don't have a sewing machine, have to hand stitch, so it's a bit time-consuming & laborious. First one needed a bit of adjusting to get a good fit. Not used it outside at shops yet though.

Try this no sewing method. We made this video for fun. Anything to fill the hours of lockdown!
